Hand converted with online PokerStrategy.com hand converter:

Play hand

$1/$2 No-Limit Hold'em (9 handed)

Known players:
[tg]UTG2$69.30:///////;MP1$200.50:///////;MP2$207.25:///////;MP3$550.25:///////;CO$74.00:///////;BU (Hero)$202.70:///////;SB$101.10:///////;BB$257.85:///////;UTG1$200.00:///////;[/tg]

Preflop: Hero is BU with K:h, A:c.
6 folds, Hero raises to $7.00, SB folds, BB raises to $22.00, Hero raises to $52.00, BB folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.

Final Pot: $23.

This happens quite often. People 3-bet reasonably light from SB. I think that mini-4bet / call shove is the best line here in most of the cases (many regs 3-bet / push suited connectors from blinds). This time he had 6% 3-bet from blinds.

I think if BU calls it is quite obvious he has AJs-AK. So if BU hits A on flop he wins max one C-bet from blinds. Whereas if he does not hit, he is in trouble spot. That´s why I protect PRE with 4-bet. But I think hand judges often prefer call. The reason is that if I hit I can win more?

I play it the same way on nl100. It's great for you if you have players who spazz out 5bet shoving s/cs here :)

Part of the reason for 4betting it small here is to balance your 4bet bluffs. If you start flatting AK or other strong hands, and it gets shown down, you're that much more likely to get 5bet bluffed since attentive regs will put more bluffs in your 4betting range and less strong hands.

On the other hand, maybe it's fine to flat here some of the time - especially if blinds are 3betting light. When they aren't, I'd rather force them to make a decision pre and give myself 5 cards to make my pair :)

Yep, eggzactly. I sometimes 4-bet bluff suited connectors / middle pockets with similar 4-bet. Though, I know nitty Bierbaer will have his comments on it =) ;)

...and I am looking forward to that already now _cool:

btw I rather 4-bet bluff weaker hands (like JTs) from BU against tight regs blinds who does have 4-bet range 0-2% as they are even capable of folding AJs-AQs / 88-TTs when facing such 4-bet. When the guy has 8+ 4-bet range, he is capable of showing suited cons and middle pairs, so I don´t like bluff 4bet that much. I even once called his all-in 5bet when I had JTs - huuuge tilt call =) he showed KK and probably added me to the buddy list _biggrin: _biggrin:

Please don´t, there are many fish already taking care of reducing my roll Already 3 two-outers on river for full stack. I know what they have, play accordingly, they just hit it :f_biggrin:  3k hands and break even result due to sick lucky fish :P Hope to collect them long-run hehe

Yes he does .

If you do the math for 4betbluffing you'll see, that an opponent usually needs to 3bet 8% at the very least to make a 4bet profitable, oftentimes you even need them to 3bet 10% to 11% depending on how often they stack off.
The reason for this is, that you effectively have 0% potequity, so your foldequity has to make up for that.

In general I think you should call AK IP when you think you have a ton of foldequity and 4bet A6o instead - otherwise you're just wasting AK and one more thing to consider is, that if the opponent 3bets 8% and you can justify 4betting for your foldequity it's still a 0EV spot!
By calling you can easily turn a profit since you're not only IP and can hit, but you can also take it away from him postflop.

Just consider this: With the amount of money you need to 4bet you could also call the 3bet and his cbet on any flop (assuming he bets ~1/2 pot).
Obv it's a lot harder for your opponent to play postflop than if he's facing a simple shove-or-fold decision preflop where he can determine the best play easily by the stats.

Of course if you see any chance he's spazzing out and 5betbluffs or if he stacks off with AQ for value go ahead and 4bet ;).

+1, regs do that against me as they already have plenty notes on me that I play very light in button vs blind wars against suitable opponents _cool: I think if he has 5% 4-bet from blinds, he typically (against me) shoves here so that´s why I 4-bet AK as well.

Otherwise, your reasoning for call is very good. He is not very strong from 3-bet blinds usually, if we hit A or K and he C-bets, we can use the time bank and do visually uncomfortable call to induce him barreling and representing ace ;) :]
