[Closed] Another family man attempting to grind

Managed to work my BR down to $0.70. Was retarded enough to try to play $1.20 STT...not smart and it was against sound advice (sorry I didn't listen, thazar). After my BR was crippled down to that level, I took some time away this afternoon, went for a walk, and had a nice lunch with Mrs. Founder. My job is wonderful! Can't believe that I am able to enjoy the freedom and pay for the job that I have, I'm truly blessed.

After lunch with the wife, came back to pokerstrategy and read some articles and watched a video. The video I watched was the one describing the different types of players. I know the types already, but it was nice to listen to it again. I was finding myself getting upset at the TAGs at my tables, thinking, they aren't even "playing" poker. They only get involved when they have the nuts, what fun is that? Well, the video reminded me that, that is exactly how you want to play, if you want to be successful.

So after the video, I wanted to try the tables again, but I was thinking you had to have at least $0.80 to buy-in to the NL2, short stack CG. I was pleasantly surprised that you can have as little as $0.40 to sit at the NL2 CGs. I sat down with my entire bankroll of $0.70......20 hands later......$1.70. Surprising what the proper mindset and really soft tables will do for you.

The plan going forward is to camp at the NL2, short stack tables until the BR is up to $25. At that point I will play the NL2 tables, fully stacked.

I found myself thoroughly enjoying the experience today with my last $0.70 on the table. Definitely made me more focused and concentrated on what I was doing. Was able to fold JJ and QQ when the flop came with a completed flush or straight, which would not have happened this morning or the last week for that matter.

Time for bed...pretty tired....looking forward to what tomorrow holds for me!

KJo fold the flop , you got a GS and he best pot, you have 4 outs against Ax so that's 16% equity over 2 street and given the effective stack size you have no FE so fold now and save yourself $0.36.

on the second hand first of all wait for the BB getting dealt cards. I know it is only 2c but it amounts and you dont want to be paying the blinds twice in a round. so be patient and wait ♦ .

About the hand itself: raise PF with QJo from MP. As played preflop. your 3bet is worthless. you did not hit the flop, nor did you connect at all, the board is drawy as fuck. give it up.

Second hand...I changed seats, and thought when it asked me to post the BB, I was in effect the BB, but I was not...I would have waited and I knew that I would be corrected on that....as I should. And I should have raised..."If your hand is good enough to play....RAISE!"

Great blog, loving your style... I've been away for a while and have now caught up with all the blogs I used to read and I am starting on the new ones that I haven't yet had the pleasure.

I used to play SSS many moons ago when you could buy in for 20bb's on any table, and since they stopped you doing that I switched to playing with a full stack. But recently had a few bonuses to clear so decided to give the MSS a shot (as you can play higher limits while still following decent BRM) and I've only played a few thousand hands but it's a lot more fun imo, gives you a lot more playability at the tables and 3-betting with AQ is acceptable also! Just wondering if there was any particular reason why you went for SSS over MSS?

Also, the 7,5 suited raise and calling preflop no matter what anyone else says I approve of on a massive level - Kudos for you!!!! Definitely something I would do against a few opponents!!

Anyway, great reading keep it up and best of luck swelling that bankroll into something a lot larger

Going off the SSS starting hand chart...I think I was looking at it as a re-steal.

Did I mis-interpret that? His raise isn't considered a steal because he raised from MP2, so that was not a steal?

I have answered my own question...should have been a fold...since he is raising from MP2, my raise is not a re-steal and since the chart says that I should only raise with minimum AK in late position with one raiser before me.

a steal is when someone raise from LP (CO or BU) to get the blinds. In more advance play some people start stealing from HJ (MP3) but dont worry about that yet. anyway a raise from MP2 is not a steal. A resteal is made from the blind as a 3bet against the weak range of a steal.

jbpatzer....Didn't have the BR for rebuy, but was not going to rebuy...Ended pretty early for me...my QJ ran up against a Q8...we were all-in after the flop of Q64.....Turn was K.....River was the dreaded 8. Villian had about 10x my stack from previous reckless play, so I knew he was calling anything.

Played 650 hands today of SSS...attempting to build the roll up....lost $1.59. Mostly to coolers (Hands will be posted at the bottom).

Looked over the hands and ironically find that I am losing hands that I should not be playing....I know....very surprising. I upped the amount of tables up to 4, to avoid the boredom call/raising and that helped bunches. Need to remember to stick to the plan...

Just bad play on my part...another case of me thinking AK is stronger than it really is Looking at the hand now...I'm noticing his stats. I turned off the display of the stats at the beginning, as I do not have enough hands at this level to much stock into them...Plus at this level, how much stock can you put into the stats to begin with? However, after seeing that he is a 13/4 after 92 hands...I should have known better...live and learn.
