have to work the whole holidays... it's ok, i have the weekends and i'm sure i'll get to the hours sometime
lonnng time without an update.
went to vegas in the xmas break. not 21 yet (and got my fake ID confiscated at my hometown casino) so i wasn't able to legally gamble, but i snuck into the poker room at Treasure Island and played their lowest limit game, 2$/4$ stakes LHE FR (was afraid if i won big, wouldn't be able to cash out). played pretty tight/trickyAG. other players were generally quite medium/weak, with one very loose/weak old lady.
this of course got pretty boring, as it's only 1-table (why can't you multi-table IRL? zzz), so i struck up conversation with a fellow shark there. he explained that he doesn't play LHE either, he plays medium-stakes PLO8 :P. of course, we ended up dominating the table, and i ended up about +12BB in 40min, pretty impressive considering rake is 10% and that was my first real time playing LHE.
on the online front it hasn't been looking very good. i would say i have a decent regular sng strategy with a very slight couple of holes, and this should net me about 10-15% ROI on the long-run if i only play when i'm concentrating, but it really is difficult concentrating for 1+ hour at a time, and this combined with variance is really really getting to me.
so, finally sick of the LONG breakeven streak i've had playing normal speed sng, and i've decided i'm going to turn over a new leaf and try NL cash, FL cash and turbo sng (first reading the articles and sticking to good BRM of course!). this stage will first start with me withdrawing 250$ (half my roll), which is about 50$ more than i've personally put into poker over the years (this is including when i was really bad at it)
here's a progress report for any interested. Still working my 9-5 though of course, and that makes this very very tough for me to learn new games.
(btw this includes a great deal of disconnects, etc. in reality i'm not that bad ;))
so far played just 1 set of 4x6+.5 turbo sng's at stars, with a result of +17.2$. the games look very weak!
well, been playing a couple of turbos. must say they are working better for me.
i think it's partly due to my lack of attention span and lack of patience, a lot of the time i find myself playing far too loose pre-ICM even against other loose players. whereas with turbos, it reaches the ICM stage far quicker.
here's the graph, roll currently at about 550$ after the cashout.
and turbo compared to other games i've played. (where the turbo is longhand 6+0.5 and freeroll stands for any MTT tournament)

been a while since i've updated.
finished work a week early before university, and decided to do a MASSIVE (for me at least) poker marathon, just to see profitability in terms of time, and whether i could make it my main source of income as a student.
the marathon was on PokerStars (mainly pokerstars) and iPoker (CDPoker client, sorry pokerstrategy ^^;).
ended up grinding about 30 "work" hours of poker, which is in reality maybe 20 hrs of poker, 5 hr table selection, 5 hr hand evaluation/forum trolling for a total of 850usd.
means i've doubled my bankroll in about a month, most of that progress being during my "week off" so to speak. I've since then moved up from the 15+1s to the 25+2s, which does seem a bit harder, with more and better regs than before. Fish are still fish though ^^;. I used a very loose BRM of 75buy-ins in moving up.
(keeping in mind that this graph is TIME vs earnings)
and... my nothing less than impressive sharkscope graph (for pokerstars only though)
i would post some interesting hands with this, but i've spread them all around the site, in this thread: LOL Donkaments as well as of course in the SNG Sample Hands forum.
Now i'm back at uni, but it's a lot of breaks in each day between classes. I have a laptop now and my university just brought in a free internet policy. Have played some sets from there (1 set conveniently takes exactly 1 break), so i can still grind away ^^;.
Today: played 3 sets in total so far, was down just under 1.5 buy-ins (omg sick downswing ;)). Then stars stopped making new sngs which sort of annoyed me. Saw one last FPP MT-SNG for the sunday million. 375 FPP, 36-player, top ONE paid, turbo structure. Decided to sign up for that. ended up winning (!) with what was actually quite little luck; from the top of my head, my KK held up against AQo all-in preflop, my A2 sucked out against AT all-in preflop (he completed with AT, late, with 11BB, 4-handed, @#$@), and finally A2 held up against QT (same guy completed with QT late with 13BB 3-handed, as co-chipleader then called with a shortstack on the table!!!).
In that last hand, flop came KJx, which had me just slightly worried ;). My A-high (monster) held though, and I scooped the pot for 80% of the chips. K9s then held up against the shortstack's 6BB shove (with antes) heads up with Q5s for the win.
Unregistered for the sunday million, of course, which means I take the 215 tournament dollar prize, and offset all losses today and then some ^^;
I'm going to make a video sometime soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

bit of a pitfall here, down about 6 buy-ins atm.. i'll live though ;).
removed my username btw. don't want some random from these forums reading it, reading how i play my hands, and exploiting my play (much as i think my play is unexploitable)
after dropping 20 or so buy-ins playing what i think is near perfect poker for this limit, i've decided to change games.
the thing about sitngos is that you do not always profit from your opponent's mistakes.
an example would be something like this in a standard single table SNG
blinds 200/400 ante 75
stacks:
BB: 2500
HERO (SB): 2500
BU: 8400
CO: 100
Hero has 32o
CO folds
BU folds
Hero shoves all-in for 2500
BB calls, shows 92o
our move was +$EV, because BB should not be calling nearly any hand as CO is definitely out next hand, and even with AK the chances that you get sucked out on the bubble makes it just too unprofitable to call. So hero can shove any two, because BB can only call something like 4% of hands.
and yet, if he makes the horrible -$EV call with 92o, our move suddenly becomes ----$EV, with the sudden massive difference in expected value going to the very fortunate shortie in the CO position.
i'm sick of this, i'm sick of abusing the bubble only to run into donkey callstations that can't lay down their sub-50% hands preflop, "just because you were moving in on me all the time man, what could i do?"
so i've switched to cash, where +EV is always = +EV, not +EV = +$EV if villain does the right thing, or +EV = +$EV assuming intelligence.
