Well yesterday i didnt play, and today i decided to have a MTT grind.
Busted just short of the money (20th or so, 18 itm. Mad an amazing comeback* with 3 chips ) in a 8$ tourney.
Had a pretty deep run in a 1$ 1r,1a tourney, made the final 45 or 36 i think (72 itm).
Busted in one double, and im itm in another (just got my AK beaten by AQ so that should probably end my tourney, i have less than 3 bb ).
So could've been worse. Im eagerly awaiting my stroke of luck that will let me ship a big MTT prize.
* The comeback went something like this
i have 103 chips. ante is 50. I get 37o. damnit. i fold and hope fortune brings me an above average hand. Voila! next hand AJo. Flop trips. Wooho! i have more than a blind! 1 or 2 hands later JJ. I shipit and get 2 callers. Flop top set with the board having a FD. villains check it and turn blank. River completes the FD, but what do you know, a 4th J :P. Those are the memorable hands that got me briefly back into the game.

Played MTTs, busted in a 5$ one and made my first final table in a while at a 8$ 180max tourney. I cashed in 6th place for about 65, one of my biggest tourney cashes :).
I played pretty well, got to the final table pretty short, but managed to build myself a reasonable stack, recognizing good spots, and sucking out with J9o against A7o helped too ♠_cool:.
But then i get JJ on the button, and a shorty MP shoves. I ship it to isolate him but get called by a not so short stack that i have covered who has aces.
I was pretty much crippled, but at least i went down with a fight.
I think i got a bit over aggro and got a bit too frisky at times, but the table was playing pretty scared and i got them scared shitless of my resteals/squeezes/3bets. Kinda funny that someone with less than 15 bb sets the tone at the table 
But i played to ship the tourney, i made a pretty marginal push after being very active and busted. Hopefully the next few days ill get in decent MTT volume, playing all sorts of 5-10$ MTTs.

I chip up a bit in the rebuy period, along with addon im doing pretty well. Card dead for like half an hour, down to 20ish BB. Bigstack limps to my right, i have about 8 bb left, QTo, i shipit from the highjack i think, attacking the dead money (because i was card dead i had the image to back me up). Villain tanks and calls with 22. Bad call, but i win the flip.
Next hand JJ, ep guy minraises, bigstack to my right coldcalls, i ship in my newly acquired stack (any 3bet basically commits me) and get a coldcaller, and original raise calls. The flop brigs several gutshots and a fd, but i have a spade and im pretty happy about my hand. Unfortunately both villains shipit on the flop, and im beat by not only one pair of kings, but 2
Early double:
A tagish guy raises from CO, and im in the SB with 56s. i resteal (this is for about half of villains chips), villain calls with A8s -_- i miss my flopped FD+gutshot and hit bustoland.

Started off pretty card dead. some dude raises in EP, i 3bet. A maniac blind ships it, and original raiser calls. I shove, and original raiser calls with 66. Aces hold up and i win a huge pot.
After that i had AKo, i raise and it's like 3 or 4 way pot. flop brings an A and 3 diamonds, and i have Kd. 66 guy calls a flop bet and goes broke with a 9high fd, drawing absolutely dead on the turn :).
I get 66 in ep and raise it, LP guy 3 bets me. We're both really deep so i call for set value. flop comes 444. Oh god, this could get ugly. I check to villain, who makes some really weak bet. I c/r to see where im at, but villain shoves.
This actually looked very weak to me. I seen this guy make weirdass plays, and he was generally very bad, so i was pretty sure my pair was good. After tanking i make the call, and villain shows AQ. My pair holds up and i rake in a huge pot.
My table is horribly loose so i pick my spots carefully. With like 3-4 limpers, i get KQo in the SB. I decide to play cautiously and just complete knowing there's no way i can get any one of them to fold. i flop trip ks, with the board offering a FD. I bet flop, and get 1 caller. Turn blanks, i lead out again (obviously giving villain bad odds on a draw). River completes FD. Fuck me. i check/call villain's potsize bet and obviously villain hit the flush.
A bit tilted in the next hand, some 20bb stack limps in. I have JTo, and given villains stacksize his limp seems rather weak. So i try and isolate him, some loose guy behind me calls and limper called. Flop came 55x. I decide to check behind, dont really want shorty villain to c/shove me here. turn brings a T. limper makes a small bet, i raise and commit he, he shoves, showing K5s. Very solid preflop call. I gotta stay away from those spots in 2$ tourneys -_-.
I get AK. Im reseated to a table with the guy that made the play with AQ. he minraises preflop, and i 3bet. I have him covered by like 1 bb. Obviously he shoves (we're both like 100 bb deep). Im pretty sure that his range is something like Ajo+,ATs+,22-JJ,KQs. I make the call, and villain shows AJs. J on the flop pretty much seals the deal for me.
At this point i feel like smashing something, but i master my emotions and type "NH" in the chat. Villain says something stupid in the lines of "ha ha, told you id get you for the last hand".
FUCKING MORON!!! He played both hands like shit. I dont mind the play with the AQ hand, it would've worked if he had played it normally, not going all apeshit over the allin button. If he 3 bets me on that flop, i muck. His shove just didnt make any sense to me and i knew he probably had overcards. His play with the AJ is also ridiculous. The only thing he deserves after those 2 hands is to go busto.
There's a saying in hebrew "dont be correct, be smart". I feel like my reads are usually correct, but i feel like a fool for getting in these spots in the first place. Fish can be so troublesome..
Today is saturday, and it's the last day before im drafted. I havent been playing too much poker, i used the time to do other things (drink beer and play fifa 10 ♦) and just get my head cleared a bit before im shipped to the army.
For those of you who are interested, up till about march i will be home on weekends (sometimes i wont come home for the weekend, but hopefully that wont occur too often. FYI, weekends in Israel consist of friday and saturday, so 2 day weekend ftl). Hopefully ill have a bit of time to relax and hit the tables a bit, but other priorities might not enable me to dedicate as much time to poker as i would like.
To sum up these past 3 months, it's been one hell of a journey. This site and community helped my game in levels i cant even begin to recognize. 3 months ago, playing 0.5/1 SH (or SH in general) seemed like a crazy aspiration and i thought i would be doomed for several months in the clenches of 0.25/0.5 FR and worse. I havent really reached my goal BR-wise, but i think im at a point where i can make a few extra bucks if i ever get short on cash.
I've made an arrangement with 2 people who i play (live) poker with. I transfer them money and they give me cash. It's like cashing out, but way more profitable for me (no withdrawal fees, no fees for depositing a check in foreign currency and they give me an awesome exchange rate). So i gave them so far about 300$, so my BR is pretty low atm, about 600$.
I also got a pretty big check from my work after resigning, So hopefully i wont need to cashout too often.
As far as my poker journey goes, i hope the army wont be the end of it and after march i hope to have time to get back into business, valuebetting fish and bluffbetting regs ♠_cool:
As for my brothers in arms in the variance-heavy battlefield that is 0.5/1 SH @ FTP, i wish you well, but not too well, since i still need the fish to have some money left for me to take on weekends ♦
Wow, it seems like eternity since my last post
As far as the army is concerned, im still not gonna be home till the weekend, but now my base is only 45 minutes from where i live rather than 3 hours in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully the living conditions will improve as well and all will be good.
AS far as poker is concerned, last week i was home but didnt get a chance to play and 2 weeks ago i had to stay for the weekend in the base. So today i played a bit (200ish hands i think, maybe less) and ended up 7BB
So in general im ok and in good spirits. The time away from home starts getting to you, but being surrounded by good people who are in the same situation helps, so i made a lot of friends and have a lot of good memories from my time in the army so far. I dont really have much to add, just wanted to fill you guys in. Sometime this weekend ill browse the blogs and catch up on the last 3 weeks. Next weekend unfortunately i wont be home so im just hoping for a good old fashioned fun weekend.

Im not really sure how to begin this post since so many things have happened, but ill just start by saying the main subject behind this post: im back, or at least trying to return.
After several months in the army, im finally at a point where i come back home every day. True, i still dont have a lot of free time, since im home by 20:00, but its still enough to get back in business. Commuting to the base is a bit of a bitch, spending 2-3 hours a day in a train/bus pretty much sucks, but im sure there are people here that drive to work and it takes them longer, so i know finding time is possible. Im hoping to utilize the commuting time for poker study amongst other things.
There are some differences this time around. First, im going NL this time. My long term goal of making it to a live MTT is what brought forth this decision. Since grinding MTTs isnt much of an option, my only other option is playing 6max cgs. Since my poker knowledge and feel for the game are totally not the same as they were before, and furthermore, by BR has been diminished due to cashouts, i will be joining the fish infested NL5 limit, playing NL FR BSS. Im begining a new path, with 140ish usd in my roll. Im starting fresh, from the bottom up.
Also, rereading this blog, i notice how whiny and bitchy i was about every session, even after claiming i didnt let it affect me, the swings still got to me. So this time around NO BAD BEAT posts. No complaining about running cold! Im only going to discuss my play and see what i can do to take it to the next level.
Im very serious about improving, but now i look at playing poker differently than i did before the break. I was in it for the money. Now, it will take me a long time before i see anything coming close to a normal sized profit. So there's no need to rush, just gonna take my time, play when i feel like it, and try my best not to bonus whore and mindlessly grind. I realized that even though at the time playing poker for several hours a day seemed harmless, now it's not something i cant afford to do. Playing an hour a day or every other day is also fine.
Today i played by first session in a couple of months. It was very interesting, playing online after a long break. I forgot the rush of making an aggressive play, and im happy to be feeling good being back at the tables. It's fun to start fresh, it's like everything is new again and you start reliving stuff that was taken for granted in higher limits. The value of money is also something that is often taken for granted in higher limits, and it's funny to feel bad after being stacked with 5$, after losing 50$ pots in FL.
So to sum up, it's good to be back, even though im a bit less involved in poker, i dont think there's anything wrong with that
So far im doing pretty well in NL5. Started out with a pretty sick upswing, and then it started to even itself out a bit
I've been playing mostly rush (they offered a 5$ bonus for playing it, so i said why not try it and earn another BI? ♦) and found it was pretty nice, but i prefer old fashioned poker better. Rush lacks the personal aspect of poker, which is the most fun part about the game. I also think rush causes me to act too fast, ill see how that goes when i resume playing at regular tables. Hopefully that should patch up that leak.
I've got a couple of days off this week so i hope to get some volume in and post hands like crazy

Anyway, i got some sick volume today and yesterday. Started 6 tabling, and im feeling pretty comfortable with it. The sessions were both in the red, but i learned a whole lot, mostly that i need to sit on my ass and study. Im going for a back to basics approach. Just playing ABC poker, nothing too fancy. Building up my roll so i can start the leveling madness. Of course this doesnt mean i wont be c-betting, 3-betting and stealing the blinds when it's profitable, im just trying to avoid the marginal spots i sometimes tend to get myself into.

It's been a good couple of days. I've significantly reduced the number of ugly spots i got myself into. I also pretty much understood that i cant win every pot im in and trying to always win is just not worth it.
I tried a lot of fancy plays when in most of them i just ended up spewing money. So now i give a lot more thought before i make a play and if the conditions arent the greatest i say to myself "well, you know what? you're not too mixed up in this pot, so letting go isnt the worst thing that will happen. You'll have plenty of chances to stack this guy, and he'll gladly pay up".

Havent played so much this week, there are no trains for this week and next one so i have to leave mega early and i come home later as well. From what iv'e played im about b/e. im really happy about my non SD line, it's pretty much stabilized and not falling down sharply, i think it just shows that im picking my spots a lot better, and it feels good to see an improvement from my first couple of sessions.
It's going to be a slow journey, but hopefully i will be rolled for NL10 in the next 2 months.
Didnt play much this week as well, next week the trains are back so i should have a bit more time to play (and sleep.. :X).
Just had a pretty good session. Love it when you get into 3bet pots with a speculative hand and hit the board like a pro luckbox 
Im also happy with my reads and play that session, i think i got at least a stack of thin value bets. Im hoping to get some volume thorughout the weekend and make some good old fishy money.
Funny enough after my last post i had a shitfest session lol.
But i pretty much managed to recover and today had a +4BI session. So many fish out there in the weekend, i just love it. I didnt think that the avg. I was 3 betting alot yesterday, and villain seemed to get frustrated with me, i put him on a worse pair in this kind of situation and his shove looked weak to me. I pretty much instantly called, normally i would've folded.
Last week was pretty awful, but a +6 BI session today was pretty awesome. I got an insane amount of good hands and made some good calls when villains overplayed their tpgk.
So far things are going pretty good.
Im slowly but surely gaining the BR for NL10, right now i have 196$. The plan is to start adding NL10 tables as i gain a bettr br. @ 23bi ill play 2 NL10 4 NL5, when i reach 25 BI, ill play half 10 half 5, to get used to the swings. Once i settle at 250-270$, ill play NL10 permanently, hopefully crushing it and moving on up.
Im pretty confident with my game and reads. Obviously i have a lot to improve, but i feel im making progress. May the good fortune ive been enjoying continue and may the best decisions come easy.
