There are 2,598,960 5-Card poker hands.
4 are royal flushes.
So the odds are 1:649,739
I have played roughly 250,000 hands of 5-Card Draw online, so I'm well ahead of the odds.
Cheers,

Real Life
Well, it is official -- I am a great grandfather.
I've always been a pretty good one (or so I'm told) but since my grandson's girlfriend gave birth to a healthy boy my status has been elevated.
Not a life-changer for me -- but it sure is for the proud papa.
Woot!
VS
Thanks!
A lot of life changes all at once.
Tomorrow is my last day of work -- all I have to do is sign ze papairs and I'm unemployed.
Well, technically I'll be retired, but I'll be looking for a job after taking a lazy month.
Let's see what tomorrow brings...

GL in a new life.
Do you have plan to celebrate this lazy month by playing night TCOOP 5CD tourney?

Unfortunately for me, the TCOOP 5-Card Draw tournament is very early morning, and I need to go in to work one last time to sign all the severance papers.
Best of luck in it if you decide to play.
All the best,
VS
It was during my working hours so I decided not.
Do you have plan to travel this lazy month? Saint Petersburg is really great (I'm now spending a lot of time there, having a project in StP ). Moscow is also nice somewhere. You are always welcome. Yes, summer is much better time for this but it's hard to get a vacation at a new job I'm afraid.
Wow -- thanks for the offer.
If I win the lottery tonight, St Petersburg will go to near the top of my list. I have a brother in Hamburg I've never visited, so he comes first.
5-Card Draw
Today's 5-Card Draw hand comes from the department of "You folded WHAT!?"
Feral Cow Poker Hand Converter
PokerStars Limit 5 Card Draw $0.10/$0.20 - 5 players
CO: $4.03 (Hero)
Button: $2.19
SB: $1.92
BB: $2.54
UTG: $0.54
Dealing Hands: ($0.15) J♦: 4♠: 4♣: 4♦: 5♦: (5 players)
UTG calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.20, Button raises to $0.30, SB folds, BB raises to $0.40, UTG folds, Hero folds, Button calls $0.10
First Draw: ($1.15) (2 players)
BB discards 2, Button discards 1, BB bets $0.20, Button calls $0.20
Button mucked Q♥: 6♠: 3♦: 6♦: 6♣:
BB showed A♠: 2♦: A♣: A♦: 9♥:, three of a kind, Aces
BB won $1.48
(Rake: $0.07)
BTN is uber-tight, having 3Bet less than 6 times in 1000 hands -- I forget the exact percentage.
BB is unknown, but can he really cold-cap with worse than trip 4s ?
Sometimes you just know.
Although earlier I folded QQ in the BTN vs a limp and a raise only to find they would have held vs 44 and 88.
So noted.
Last day today.
I signed all the papers, shook all the hands, gave letters of appreciation to the two guys under me and headed off home.
It would have been nice of the head honcho of the papers would have come out to give us a totally insincere speech of thanks, but no. No glowing write-up in the paper, either. The local weekly did a nice piece though.
Such is life when you're a cost centre in the grand accounting scheme of life.
Peace,
VS
Oh go on, post the local one.
And I hope you have time to enjoy putting the tired feet up for a bit to.

Apparently Global News had a piece too...

So that is where I spent my days -- and many nights for the last 17 yrs 2 mo
So now I can say I'm a poker pro
All the best,

I had no idea those things were so damned big.
Sad sight at any time, wish I hadn't asked now.
Sad sad day my friend.
What an awesome looking place it was.
All the best in whatever you do.
I'm here if you need anything.
Thanks to everyone for the good wishes.
It was not only the best job I ever had, it was better than the best job I ever imagined, so how can I complain after 17 years of playing with someone else's toys?
And when I broke 'em they replaced 'em
And paid me to play with 'em!
I'm going to take it easy for a month or so, then go looking for a similar gig.
Cheers,
VS
BTW, if you do fly to Hamburg it would be rude not to stop here in Eire for a visit! I'll buy the Guinness!
Flipaments
Well it turns out that there is a technique.
It involves being dead tired at 21:30 and going to bed.
Next step is to suddenly become fully awake at 00:30 for no reason. At this point, having a complete inability to get back to sleep is crucial.
So sit down, open PokerStars and putz about with some FL $0.10/$0.20 5-Card Draw.
Now a tournament window opens up -- wtf? Say the wtf out loud, but so loud as to wake the wife.
Then just watch as you win....
$35.20
Woot!
Total for the January Challenge now comes to $51.20
$5.00 x3
$2.00 x1
$1.00 x4
were the rest.
Thanks PokerStars!
VS
Lol nice run!
I bricked but also had the similar WTF moment when the tourney opened this am!
