Hey mate, I'm pretty sure that it's not the case that a player can be a winning player on site A and a losing one on site B. I accept that identical play might result in winrates on tough platforms a few tenths of a BB/100 different over time, but not a whole order of difference.

It's more likely that losing $ is either leaks and or variance (certainly the case with me). The best way to find out which is to just post a bunch of hands - this will do more for your game than switching your bankroll.

Sometimes you just think about some of people that you've lost in your life, today has been one of those days for me. I know it's silly but I can't help but wonder how different my life would be if some of them were still here by side. And although I don't believe in religon and struggle with the concept of God, I still harbour that little bit of hope that maybe one day I'll get to see the smile on their faces again. I'm sure this tune will have meaning for anyone that clicks play.

So a full month has passed since I started at the tables again, and my $80 has now become a few cents off $260. I already feel like it's been a lot longer since my return and sometimes forget this when writing posts saying how I'm getting stressed with bad beats etc. Truth is I'm up almost $200 in my first month back and only playing micro's so I guess I've been moaning about winning. It's hard to sometimes realise the longer route and not get caught up in the short-term I guess, but as the months go on I hope I can stop letting the short term results affect me.

Heres a few graphs to visulize my progress. I'll start with my biggest achievement beating NL5!

As you can see I've nearly played 60,000 hands this month at FR games and over the month I've made $127 from playing alone, which when I look at now is pretty good, even if I did have a few rough moments.

I did move my bankroll over to Stars and I did make Silver VIP, so next month I am in the position of having Bronze Ironman at Full Tilt and Silver VIP at Stars. I think for the meantime I'll be playing at Stars though as I really seem to have trouble at Full Tilt putting opponents on hands, and dealing with the bad beats dished out every hundred or so hands by a completely weird hand that you just couldn't make up.

Switching rooms obviously means most of my goals don't apply so I won't bother to review them as it would be a bit pointless. However I am making some that if I don't stick to I give permission to anyone reading to slap me about a bit. Verbally, or physically if you should happen to see me. I'd really like to play at both rooms and maintain a decent status on each but obviously my current bankroll wouldn't allow that, however if I manage to hit $500 that could change and I may actually go for it. I feel like a serial changer, perhaps it's the way I deal with with my bad beats and is actually my form of Tilt. I just don't know!

Anyway I need to get down to some nitty gritty stuff and post up all the details I wish to record, in the hope that one day I look back and laugh at my struggle through the micro's.

I think these goals are a bit less dependant on profits/losses and should encourage me to think more about my play, there is no point adding reviewing my own hands because I spend hours just looking back through them. I'm hoping that I can also achieve a few Stellar Rewards (I've done 2 x $10 ones this year, do the three other $10 ones this month and I'll heading for $50 ones) and maybe a bonus from the VIP store also to make up for the rakeback that I'll miss, but it's a small price to pay for not having to play at Full Tilt, I give up I think, I officially can't beat FT micro's I admit defeat.

So I guess my month could of gone a lot worse, but it could of also been a lot better, I'm really disappointed at my 26,000 hand break even run, and I hope it's not going to continue to long and I break the dead lock and start making my way towards NL25 at a faster pace. I'm loving the game still though don't get me wrong and now I'm back at Stars I've found my aggressive streak again and never feel scared or wary about putting plenty of chips in the pot with decent hands. I've also noticed the difference in Rake is pretty big (Stars taking a lot less) which can only be a good thing. I've played three full sessions since being back on stars winning $21.42, $12.43 and in the shortest session losing $4.42, but that was my own fault for failing to adapt from full tilt to Stars when I first played back there. I hope I can make more in the way of profit next month and ideally I'd like to be playing NL25 by the 1st september, although I don't hold my breath.

Not only is it quads, but also I managed to get paid off which rarely happens (When I flopped quad aces I took down a $2.53 pot). I've won bigger pots this month but it's nice to see massive hands win big pots and that's why this one is my favourite!!

I totally agree with you about leaks and variance. I was writing my monthly round up as you posted this (it took me about 3 hours because I kept getting distracted with youtube, forums and looking through hands). I do think I'll do better at Stars though, as the play there enrages me a lot less, when you get outdrawn it's not with 3,7 suited AI postflop on a 7 high board while you're holding QQ+ ya know?

I don't know what the deal is with me and Full Tilt, NL5 I pretty much beat at pokerstars too ($88 of the $106 profit). Perhaps it's a subconscience niggle. I have no idea, but I do know my comfort is increased at Stars.

Lets hope next month is a better one all round.

Taking a few days off cash games... May play a few freerolls and $1 MTT's. But I need a break and won't be posting for a few days in here. See you all soon.

Well I have to call upon a quote here "The best laid plans Of Mice and Men often go awry" ~ Robert Burns. I am infact playing at Full Tilt, however this time I have more than a good reason.

After the worst day I've recorded so far... This one:

Anyway, after that, I decided I was going to take a break and that's when I posted that intention here. However, due to the kindness of someone on another forum the break was short lived. He took the time to give me a quick coaching on my game, he told me that I should stick to 4 tables (Hence the shift to FT, no chance of decent VIP level at Stars) and after him watching me play for around 15 minutes he advised me on opening range, watching me play for around 45 minutes more advising as I went and I haven't looked back and only posted one minor losing session since.

My natural aggression combined with new opening range and consistent C-Bets is working so well I feel stupid that I never opened up and played back at some opponents a little sooner. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I only wish I hadn't played 60,000 hands without realising what I was actually doing wrong. With that one massive leak plugged I don't even worry about the time of day, or which opponents I play, tight, loose, good or bad, I feel I can adjust accordingly.

That graph is the last three days since I got my coaching, and as you can see it's a significant improvement compared to the other graphs I have posted on this blog, hopefully this is the beginning of the end of my struggle with the micro limits, although with this game nothing is ever certain.

I know I chop and change poker rooms more times than I eat hot dinners, and I know I vowed not to change again! This time though, playing only four tables I can easily achieve Gold level Ironman status (earning lots of medals, with a view to buy a bonus) and on pokerstars I'd of been lucky to reach Silver VIP each month. So it's an obvious choice here, as Ipoker is just wrong on so many levels, I hate PP with more passion than I care to think about due to thier archaic nature and general poor form and I don't trust the lesser platforms.
Reaching Gold Ironman consistently should net me a nice year end bonus too (look at that long term goal!), at the end of the year should I be at a decent limit that would give me a decent shot at Supernova then I will obviously transfer to Stars. But that's a big IF.

Due to all that's happened (well what happened in that hour to be more precise) obvioulsy most of goals for the month are now null and void, so I'll set myself some more in this post.

I think that should cover most of it for now, I would obviously love to start September at NL25, but I am far off reaching the bankroll for such endeavours right now so it's not really a real goal I can set myself as I could be setting myself up for failure. 100k hands I reduced to 50k for the obvious reason I am playing far less tables, my status on pokerstrategy (much to my dismay) will remain the same for a while and the change from VIP to Ironman is obvious also.

I've used my Pokerstars points to purchase a sunday quarter million ticket as I don't intend to play there except maybe the odd MTT thought the points would be better used as a shot at something decent than gathering dust, it's a very long shot, but we all dream of that massive MTT cash right? I'm also going to still save for that monitor at Full Tilt, but obviously that probably won't come around till next year.

Yeah it was a very nice oppportuity. I usually play whatever time it takes to reach 100 Ironman points and then I sometimes play a bit more if I am feeling good, generally 4 - 7 hours.

So those hands are just my favourite from losing a nice 6 stacks today all similar to those above... Except when I ran my JJ into a guy playing 83/7 who managed to get QQ and it went in on a T-High board and I ran QQ into a regs KK who like to 3-bet about 17% of his range, but all-in-all I played well, it just didn't go well for me at all... I hit the mini omaha tables after and made $4 back but the fishes day was today and my bankroll felt the pain. My EV suggests that today I should of been only -$15 over these two bad sessions take that from the winning session earlier in the day $13 and I should of ended just $2 down but instead of $256 (after deductions from MTT too) I have a measly $201.58. Sick day that I really hope doesn't repeat itself anytime soon.

Good luck with your new goals man. I see you on the tables every once in a while. What changes did you do to your opening range? I have been playing with relative success since tightening up my range.

I agree with all your posts on the sick variance on Full Tilt. I guess at least it really teaches you how to tolerate bad beats. If you survive all the crap one has to take being a reg on Full Tilt one can survive anything.

You want to do a sweat session? I talked with fatalityone about doing a 3 way sweat session or something, he said he had talked with you too. My skype is alexnmx if you see me on the tables I'll be on skype.

After my poor poor running I didn't really put much focus on my game, I entered a few Freerolls, tried out Betfred (ERgh, how anyone can play at Ipoker is beyond me), they locked my account because I won a SnG.. Lol. They said it was because of failed login attemts, funny that it shut down when I was logged in for the FIRST time then?! I had even pre-emtped the ID check for withdrawl and sent my ID before I deposited. They may have new software, but it's still the same old shitty network in my opinion and the sooner someone buys them out and majorly overhauls the whole network the better.

I also, plodded around entering freerolls and low buyin MTT's I cashed in a few and won a few sats, but nothing major. And I failed at the ones I won seats into also. So all-in-all a rather wasted period of time.
I also played some FR NL25 (out of bankroll) only one table at a time and with half decent table selection made $18, then because I felt bad stepping out of BRM I played short stack strategy at NL25 (within BRM) and lost $17, so again more waste of time.
Anyway after all this confumbling and comfobery my bankroll stood at $150. I left poker for a day and returned to the NL5 tables, which is where I am now AGAIN. I never reached the $125 low point that would mean I had to move down though, I just decided to restart there, I guess as a bit of punishment to myself and also for a bit of protection incase the bad running continued.

I also had a look through some of my old blogs. ♦ There's quite a few. And it seems that I always have this problem of dealing with downswings, variance or whichever coined term people use to explain a period when your losses plumet to the underworld at a rate that wipes out a whole month of profit over 3 days. So I need a new approach... One goal.

Get rolled for NL25 playing NL5 and NL10. That's it.

I know what I need to do to get there, and I know I have the skill to do it, if I keep my mind in the right headspace.

I have a major goddamn issue with HEM! It's not tracking correctly it's currently -$14 from what it should be at NL5 according to PT3 and my cashier. I don't like the PT3 HUD though as it's a lot more resource intense than HEM's, I may just have to buy PT3 as well to keep track of my actual database while using HEM for the HUD alone. Undecided atm.
I am under the impression this blog maybe cursed, everytime I post some good news about playing well or running good, it seems I run into trouble. I'll be keeping an eye out on it lol.

Full Tilt is in it's own web space I don't understand the majority of what the players are thinking at most points during sessions. The profitability of 3-betting 7,4 suited (for example. Actual hand) has got to be next to nothing, how anyone can't see that is beyond me.

I can't help but comment when people try putting my play down, especially when I am pretty much right and they are just pure idiots.

Well I'm still plugging on and the only reason for this post is mainly that I have bugger all else to do so thought I come here and post on some threads, but haven't found a lot of interesting ones. I read a few blogs as well, but haven't posted comments... I wonder how many people actually do that...

Anyway all is going pretty standard still, and I'm still plugging away at NL5 trying to sidestep bad beats (although there have been quite a few) and chow down on the fish and chips.

I've worked my way up to $232 now and I'm going to try and hold out for $300 before I make the move to NL10, I don't know if I want the added satety net or I am a little apprehensive due to my last attempt. I'd obviously like to think it's the former, but either way a little extra protection in the bankroll department can't help can it?

In a way I can't wait to break free from playing the micro limits, but I can't help thinking that when I do I will have a whole new psychological barrier to break through in regards to losses and bad beats. Yes I've been there before, but I took it hard last time when I hit a bit of turbulence and I only hope that I can deal with it this time if I do eventually get free of them.
In some ways I envy those people (Of which I used to be one) that have no concept of BRM or playing where you feel comfortable because without that you have the chance of breaking through limits at a quicker rate than the average grinder. The downside is obviously that they can and often do go bust a lot quicker, but it would of been nice, during one of my random spin-ups to have amassed a decent amount (which I have done before) and then find out about BRM and start at a decent limit. But now knowing all the pros and cons, I can't see myself taking shots like that again, and in some ways at least I think this takes a little of the excitement out of the game for me.
On the flip side, when I do reach BRM quotas for the next limit the sense of achievement is a lot more gratifying and the sense of accomplishment is a lot greater. Even if variance becomes your worst enemy and can undo months of hard grinding in one fatal swoop that sees you dropping once again from whence you came.

I'm creeping towards the 100,000 hand mark now since the start of this BR building escapade and if you'd asked me when I first startd this blog when I thought I'd be as I approached 100k hands, I'd of probably replied with somewhere around NL50, but obviously this is far from the case and now I am just hoping to be suitably rolled to be playing NL25 by the end of this year. Funny how your perspective changes so much in such a short space of time.
I thought because I'd pushed through the limits before this time it would be easier and faster, it seems to be infact the complete opposite. It's taking longer and it's a lot harder than I seem to remember.

I love to win though I will say that, each green session brings a small smile to my face while each red one seems to still affect me slightly I must admit. I hate finishing a session in the red as I feel in some way that I have failed. But realistically I know that you can't win every session no matter how good your are.

Basically that was the theme for the session, always going in ahead but finishing behind. How I only lost $3.41 overall is completely beyond me.

I feel your pain. NL2 is worst than NL5 for that kind of stuff ...always ahead when you push, fish hits his card, sigh...Happened to me also and it seems like full tilt hates me.

What I love to think is that one day it's going to back fire them and we will make money on their back :).

Yeah, I read in your blog that you are having a hard time, and you are right, eventually it will come back, sometimes it hard to see when you are in a cycle of bad beats though. We just have to push through best we can

And while I'm in the mood for looking forward I thought I'd post my current stats for you all to enjoy and laugh at how my EV has declined rapidly.

I am feeling a little demoralized I have to admit, this is only Allin EV and doesn't even count the times where I've had AK for example and they've managed to river two pair with A,9os or similar junk that should of been folded preflop.... Or the times I've been called down with high pockets for them to river the only card that beats me. I'm managing to stay clear of tilt though, which is a dramatic improvement I feel. Also, my red line has evened out somewhat which is helping me to not lose to much and probably keeping my tilt at bay.

I know I just have to bear with it and work my way through this period and then variance will turn around on me and I'll be on my merry way again increasing my winrate, I just hope that it doesn't cost me to much while I'm getting hammered by morons.
