Nice!

It really is, we moan when we don't get monsters paid so it was lovely to see the 2 players going at it _biggrin:

I printed out a hand one time where I got it in really lolbad and sucked out.

Whenever I got sucked out on, I would say, "OK, your turn, buddy" ( or butthead as the mood determined).

I think I might have gotten the idea from The Mental Game of Poker.
One of the things he recommends is that when you win, recognize luck when you see it.

I DO recognize my luck when I win.
(but I still really, really deserve it -- so there plplplpl)

Nice hand,

Nice idea Vorpal, I do suckout terrible some times, but funny how we never remember those as much.

How about this for a swearing hand...

This 1 is even better...

Obviously poker is rigged but I am happy to be on the right side of the profit margin for a change. Some hands must be holding _cool:

Felt like having a nice relaxed session so I decided I would play at 20:00 and stop loading games at 22:30. I watched some TV and then got set to play. I felt comfortable and felt I played well.

The review session I did Sunday night has really helped me remain calm when the blinds are getting big and my stack is getting small. I am waiting a bit too long in some spots, but the aggression on some tables means you just have to pick a spot and hope it sticks.

I lost count of the times I got it in ahead with AA, KK & AK tonight to be beaten by some random stuff, including HU where my opponent decided to forget anything he had learnt about poker and just call 2 big shoves from me...

K8 shove called by 96s and won followed next hand by A4 called by T6o which he won, chip leader to out in 2 hands. I was actually stunned for a few seconds, I was not that worried about the loss more the calls, the 2nd shove was 25k into 35k. Nevermind I am sure I will never work out what the guy was thinking, so no point wasting any brain cells on it.

Mental Game was very good again, not really tilt issues. I just laugh at the set ups and coolers now. I suppose it gets a bit boring reading that, same as it does typing it tbh. But there we go, another good day _love:

do you have any advice for players switching from non turbo to turbo?

Hi Tommy,

The best advice I can give is to open up in position and take more marginal situations. Adjusting your ranges to suit your position, stack size and opponents is critical. You will get blinded out if you play too tight, so at times you have to call off with K9o if the situation dictates (I never did that in the past :f_mad: )

I would also recommend attending Collin Moshmans Wednesday coaching sessions as he plays a lot of Turbos of all formats (6max to 180s).

Good Luck :)

So today was a record for volume. I have never played as many games in my life and this was 2 sessions. A 30 game session this afternoon and a 55 game session this evening for a total of 6.6 hours played !!!

I ran bad though so only made $2 which makes it seem a rather pointless exercise but the breakeven stretch continues for now. It seems as if I have been moaning about hands holding up the last few days so I thought I would take a look at AA that saw show down and it seems I was right.

I have listed the amount of times AA has held going to showdown over the last 7 days,

14th 3/4 win
15th 6/6 win
16th 5/5 win
17th 3/4 win
18th 3/5 win
19th 7/13 win

There are other hands to review, but you get the idea, variance is a weird thing, but I am happy to be making money when I am getting unlucky as it means when things do fall for me I will be crushing these games like a big rock on a little thing that goes all squidgey and smells a bit _biggrin:

So I though I would post up my daily graph as I am celebrating my big volume day...

Mental Game was poor, I felt myself getting upset, I especially felt this when I was using my FPPs to play the Sunday Storm Sat and got dumped out AA v TT, it just annoyed me and added to a few AA and KK failures I had to slow down and breathe deeply. I contemplated stopping, but I have made a point of cutting out that practice when I think about it. I want volume, it is the only way to ride out variance and today I had in my mind that it was going to be a record day.

There were a couple of fun hands today, the first hand I miss clicked and the second the other guy either miss clicked or took a brain dump at the wrong moment, I laughed at this hand :f_grin:

My Mistake

Mad Call

The reason I miss clicked and do from time to time is my mouse setup...

Sometimes I get a little trigger happy and can inadvertantly hit the wrong button as they are so close, these buttons are mapped to Table Ninja so I can 1 click fold or shove :f_cool:

Wednesday is coaching night with Collin Moshman giving his knowledge out for free. This week was a game review of a $15 180man which was good as usual. Click the link below to see it...

Collin Moshman Coaching Link

I had enough time to run a quick 12 table set (was 13 somehow) before the coaching started and managed to do pretty well. I never got into many poor situations, but I need to be careful about playing too tight as I am getting low in some tourneys leaving me pushing in spots where I feel the pressure of being blinded out, not making plays optimally.

Mental game was excellent, I never worried about anything and managed to have AA All In Pre Flop hold 4/4 times so happy enough with that even though 1 hand had me worried until the river...

AA v TT

So here is February so far with a week to go...

I have just over 500 games to play to reach my goal which is NOT happening. I am happy with my volume though as I am still spending a lot of time studying and looking at spots in HEM and SNGWiz/Holdem Resources and I lost about 4 days of playing time due to illness and being away.

Actual hours played stands at 46.1 with an hourly return of $2.36 which is not going to make me rich, but at 50c games is very good IMO. If I managed to continue with that sort of ROI I will move to the $1.50 games after another 24 hours of play which should be less than a week. I will be over rolled for them so should be happy to pile in with no problems.

Hi 99,

Hopefully I can keep the good run going and entertain a few people along the way. The situation in the US is not good for you, but I hope it will be sorted out soon.

Good Luck

Seriously thinking about taking an early shot at the $1.50s.

I have been looking at the sharkscope leaderboards and found a guy is top of the 4-6 table sub $2 games bracket who was playing 50c 45s earlier this month and was not exactly a stellar performer IMHO.

BRM NIT or go for it ???

Go for it, you're ready. The $1.50s play the same as the $0.50s for the most part :)

So I took my shot at the $1.50s and it worked out well, thanks Vetani & Dogma for your encouragement _cool:

I felt strange at first thinking of the money and then I got AA cracked on my first decent shoving chance, but I looked at the hand and thought about the quality of play and laughed, lets go crush em !!!

AA Hand inc 2x Donkeys

Overall the standard is slightly better IMO then the 50c level, but not much in it. It seems people are less inclined to look you up when shoving, so I ramped up the positional aggression quite a bit. It allowed me to build a good stack for the final table and on the money bubble too.

I am almost rolled for the $1.50s now so I will just stick with them from now on. I am happy, it's about time things worked out well for a change _biggrin:

I have not been feeling great the last 2 or 3 days so decided after a long day not to play at all. I felt playing was going to be -ev.

Instead I caught up on a few things I like to do, checking out acoimbra's blog & youtube videos and looking at the hand eval forum. I also railed a friend who was playing a set. I also checked out the sharkscope leaderboards again and noted a couple of nice players who I will be looking out for on the tables.

I think I will look at gaining a star on the leaderboard in the future and feel I need to look again at the goals I am setting.

My main focus at the moment is volume and I feel I can achieve 1000 games/month with my current set up. I also have been looking at my mental game, which I feel is now going very well and I may leave that alone for a while. I think I will add in a measure of my ability, I suspect it is not as simple as it seems though. I may just use ROI, but I am not sure that is good enough. Playing 50c games a competent player should get 30%+ so does that mean I should be getting 60%+ to count myslef as a good player?

I am not sure about it so for now I am going to look at myself v the best players on my level. The sharkscope leaderboard will be my target. I want a star, I want good profit and I want to move to the next level when my BR allows. I have also been looking to transition to the 180man games at some point, but feel I need to have some help when I do. I think asking Team Moshman to stake/coach me at that point is a good idea. To that end I am updating my goals as follows...

[ ] Play 1000 games/month
[ ] Attain a Sharkscope Leaderboard Star
[ ] Contact Team Moshman at 2000 45/90 man games if performance is good enough.
[ ] Study - attend Collin Moshmans Wednesday coaching and watch any new SNG content on PS.
[ ] Hand Evaluations - become more active in the Hand Eval forum and try to help out players. We can all improve together

An amazing day for volume, I really wanted 100 games, but I couldn't take the pain any longer. I have never run so bad at these 45mans, in fact I am not sure I have ever run so bad in any form of the game over 90+ games. I have a few boom hands below if you think I am just bitching because I lost some $$$s.

There was also possibly the funniest hand I have seen so far on these, I suppose I have to assume the guy miss clicked, but maybe he didn't.

WOW Hand

So the shot at $1.50s has been a weird ride so far, ran well at the start and made 35 BI then over the next 80 games have steadily lost it, now only 10 BI up. My BR is at ~$150 so I have some play left at the $1.50s before I have to drop back (I set $125 as my limit) I would be a bit annoyed at having to do it, but I need to preserve the BR so what must be done must be done, I am still happy with my play, although I seem to be getting to the final table short pretty often at the moment, I suppose it is down to not having cards at the right time, but I suspect I am being a little too tight, especially when every move I make seems to lose.

Spoiler

anyway a great volume day (a record again) so I am happy with that.

Gentari running bad hands...

KK v 96o

AJ v T7

AQ v K8

KQ v 96o

There were more, but you get the idea, Good Luck _cool:

Nice volume :). How many do you play at a time?. When I'm on the border between 100BI BR for 0.25 and 0.50 I mix it up playing roughly half my games at the lower limit and half at the higher limit, would you ever consider doing that? ( i'm new so not sure if it's a good idea but I feel more comfortable doing that as it helps me adjust, especially as the 0.50 are turbo)

:)

Hi Adam,

Yeah I mixed in some 50c today as the $1.50s were very slow to load. As a general rule I would not like to mix too much as the way I run all my luck will be in the lower buyin, but I suppose it evens out in the long run.

I play 12 at a time, but have Table Ninja software to load up another game once I bust out of 1. I played 2 sessions today, 30 & 62 games. I put up a screenshot IN THIS POST of my 12 table set up if you would like an idea of how I play.

Good Luck _cool:

I mixed $1.50 and 50c games as I wanted to fill up my screen, I did ok at the start and then the beats just kept on coming, AA, KK, AK were like 95o today, just never seeming able to hold up unless everyone folded. I am 100% certain I started opening my ranges too wide and so never helped the situation, but I was getting annoyed at being blinded out...

I think a review session is required and a stern talking too probably :f_eek:

At least I managed to keep pushing the volume, but for now I am well and truly back in the 50c games. I will play them until I reach the $193 I intended on being my $1.50 transition point, so until then the grind MUST happen at 50c games. I will add in the 90mans if loading is slow at the start of a set, but once filled I will only add 45man games back into my set up.

This HAND summed up my day pretty accurately. Amazing how every time I step up a level I get hammered. Most likely it is in my head, but I have really been getting pissed on by the cards the last couple of days.

Tomorrow I will review the last couple of days exit hands and see if anything can be done. Once I am happy I will get started on the grind again.

I must keep remembering the goals I have and not getting upset at a couple of losing sessions. The road is long and winding _cool:

Still running bad so I played a session of lower BI tourneys, adding in $1 90mans with some 50c 45/90s. My BR has gone down to $110 so just need to ride this out.

I did some reviews of my recent games and feel I am playing fine, nothing much has changed apart from hands are just not holding at the moment. To check out a simple thing I filtered my database for Pocket Pairs I went all in pre flop and looked at how they are holding up...

22 - 0/6 0%
33 - 4/9 44%
44 - 6/12 50%
55 - 6/7 86%
66 - 5/10 50%
77 - 3/6 50%
88 - 4/11 36%
99 - 4/10 40%
TT - 5/13 38%
JJ - 7/13 54%
QQ - 10/15 67%
KK - 8/14 57%
AA - 11/14 79%

I compared that to a 3 day period from earlier on in the month and got this...

22 - '7/12 58%
33 - 2/7 29%
44 - 1/2 50%
55 - 3/3 100%
66 - 3/6 50%
77 - 4/7 57%
88 - 6/12 50%
99 - 8/11 73%
TT - 8/15 53%
JJ - 11/15 73%
QQ - 7/10 70%
KK - 11/15 73%
AA - 14/17 82%

so current average is 50% holding up where my PPs all in pre flop were holding 63% over a similar 3 day period earlier in the month.

Food for thought and a nice easy way of calming down and not wanting to find a new hobby :)
