The Philosopher's Stone - April 2013 wrap-up

In todays session i discovered that some winning regs make really big mistakes. For example one reg (fczpiter) called w KQ in bub with 12 bb stack vs runaway bigstack where he can call only 88+ and thats only if runaway bigstack is on atc which he wasnt. And secondly he called an all in w AK vs the same runaway bigstack with 23bb while there were 10bb and 8bb shorty. This call is so superbad that its just... i dont know, if he manages to make money with that play then this limit should be pretty easily beatable. I just checked, he's average ROI is 3% over 4400 games.

So, seems like, no problems!

And in one game i made a std nash push itm w Q2s vs a good winning reg, he called with 99 and i won the hand. The reg started to berate me in the chatbox that what a moron reg i am making such a bad plays etc. I mean, does he seriously think that that was a bad push? I hope so because if he is a good winning reg and doesnt know how wide can you push itm sb vs bb then its just printing money in this limit.

Today is an important day for me.

I wrote in the OP that one of my poker related goals was to start a publishing company and the capital for that would come at least partly from my poker winnings.

And today, on the 13th of April 2012, i established juridically a publishing company Henrik.

First direct expenses for that were a state fee and a cognac in a cafe with my mother whose collected poems will be the first book published by publishing house Henrik. Those expenses were fully covered by my poker winnings and therefore i withdraw 250 usd from my pokerstars account.

Meanwhile, i continue grinding as soon as i'm back behind my desk (in Tallinn atm for a father's bday and tomorrow to Tartu to some parties). Here's the graph for this month:

April 2012

I achieved my main goal for April and reached the PlatinumStar VIP level at Pokerstars.

Despite not running particularily good (see graph below), i'm still pretty content with the month. My ev ROI being almost 7% (it was around 10% til the last 2 unlucky sessions), i'm sure i beat the 15$ limit and start looking forward to play 30$. But not yet, still long way to go there bankroll-wise.

I feel that my game has improved specifically in two areas: 1) 3-bets in late position dynamics reg vs reg and 2) HU - looser 3bets and flop play. It's still quite hard for me to switch 0% risk premium LAG HU-mode after a long bubble and ITM, but i'm learning.

Still making some silly mistakes in reg vs reg game. Here's an example.

UTG raiser is a good mt reg. Have to bet on the flop, because of the draw-heavy board and the 3rd player in the hand. Once the reg raises, it should be pretty easy fold. His range is TT, 99, AK, KK, AA and maybe some AQ or AJ FD. I got only 28% against that, but i need at least 45.85% to get it in after his raise. So pretty bad mistake.

Thought about it a bit. I like it, its a cool name, international, everyone can pronounce it. Its a coincidence that it happens to be my first name aswell.

Cannot be happy with the May on pokerwize. Goal was to concentrate on volume and i even made a prop-bet for $75 with my friend sng-grinder to play at least 1500 games. Didnt accomplish that goal by far, but he did and i lost the prop bet.

But its not fair to say that not managing to play 1500 was due to laziness only. Made some substantial developments regarding publishing my first book, and it should be out if not by the end of summer, then at least by the end of the year. But, ofc, who am i kidding, big part of not getting higher volume were nice sunny days and some longer-than-planned weekends in uni-town Tartu. But hey, that is one reason why i play poker at all - to have an opportunity to spend expromt days with my friends whenever i want, without planning and without worrying for going to the work next day. Althouh, yeah, volume, volume, volume...

Fucking hell, son! I know you said you were behind, but I didn't expect you to be THAT far behind.

On the other hand publishing your first book is probably way more important, so I guess you got your priorities right.

Havent posted for long time.

I'm happy to announce that i'm running good My bankroll is comparable to my limbo account in FTP and if not even today, then at least in the next couple of days i'm gonna try out games in 30$ limit. I'm not gonna play exclusively 30$, i think i play 60-70% of the games still in 15$ and the rest in 30$. Want to be careful, dont know most of the regs in 30$.

I'm really proud of myself that i've managed to grind myself up from the lowest stakes after Black Friday. Ofc all this ftp shit sucks hard, but on the positive side - i have learned a lot on the road.

Im also trying 30s now, so prob we'll met at tables. What is ur SN (pm if u not want to share it here). One big minus is that they run very seldom. About regs i cant say a word cause i load this stake yesterday.

Hmmm, thats not good. Indeed, there wasnt much traffic today neither in 30 nor 15. Maybe its just beginning of summer and all the pokers are outside drinking beer. Thats the only explanation.

Anyway, played my first 6 games in 30$ today, cashed only in one, but i managed to win this . Bubbled twice, but i dont think i made any major mistakes. There were some nice fishes around though, some examples:

In my experiences, random players wont openshove 50bb with AA or KK very often, so QQ becomes an easy call.
