No I can filter it down to $1.10 games but they show 9 and 10 man games together.

Just have to be more vigilant when regging!

First curveball of the challenge!

I re-opened my PokerStars account yesterday and was surprised to see that I had $5 tournament dollars in my account! I will add that to my roll for the challenge and play some 50c 45 man Turbos as well.

On party yesterday I had a slightly winning day, $0.91c but I'm still stuck in a hole and have less than 5 buyins remaining.

On Stars, I played just two 50c Turbos, busting one and finishing 2nd in the other for $3.35 profit.

Total deficit for the challenge is -$13.64 combined

Unfortunately in last night's session we succumbed to variance and lost the last of our $3.88 bankroll on partypoker. Leaving us with a sum total of $0.58.

On Pokerstars.eu I played 4 50c 45 man MTSNG and had two 5th places. Bankroll on Stars is $9.49.

Going live in approximately 2 hours for a Stars only session!

Well.... I spun 58c up to $1.34 using the SNG Heroes and then regged another $1.10 but busto in 5th!

Broke for definite now.......

So it's reload time.... and I am reloading to $110 (110 buyins) and gonna do this right!

Took us 120 games go broke..... not bad with only 20 buyins to start :)

Very good, UPAY! Those turbo SnGs on Party are horribly swingy and variance-heavy, you need about 100 BI BRM. :truestory:

No time this week for my usual in-depth update. My usual writing time this morning was taken up as I'm dog sitting my mothers 2 year old Maltese Shih Tzu doggy!

As stated above I've gone busto for the challenge. Dropped 20 buyins yesterday and was left with $0.24 in my account which I could not use for anything to spin up!

So, I've decided to for 100 buyins and deposit $110 and tonight will start afresh!

Streaming from 8pm on my twitch page

See you there <3

That's the dog from your avatar, isn't it?

I could tell the old joke about the zoo that only had one animal, but that's Vorpal's job.

Best of luck with the re-rebuilding! Having to reload once or twice can be expected with variance-heavy games like these and such a tight bankroll, I think. I'll catch you in the stream tonight, as soon as I get home.

Correct that is indeed Toto!

Yes I massively underestimated the variance in these games. Also think the pressure of the small bankroll was always at the back of my mind.

Hopefully going forward I start trending upwards!

Good BRM is everything, variance can be very cruel and even destroy the willpower and motivation of ambitious grinders and grindettes. I underestimated variance too at the beginning but experienced and still experiencing how gruesome and frustrating it can be. ItΒ΄s not easy to deal with that and not fun when variance shows its dark side. But everybody has to go through this and beeing capable of dealing with variance is part of beeing a good poker player. _cry:_frown:

Such a fun stream last night, got 20 games and picked up in a win in the last game to save a bit of face!

HU lasted for aaaaaages with me having villain down to <3BBs twice and then him reversing it to have me down to 2BB but still managed to get the win!

Hopefully this is the start of a turning point!

There is this nice tournament variance simulator which can be used to simulate how variance can affect you. Now what is tough is knowing your actual EV roi without big sample. But lets say its 5% which is likely not high considering micro games player pool weakness. Now if we play just 200 games 9man games with 8% rake (not sure if this is close) and 5% estimated roi we get following data:

Spoiler

So in this sample there is still 33% chance to be in minus with one run being -50 bin and one +80 bin.

Now our same 5% reg is putting in more volume and plays 2000 games:

Spoiler

Now there is 6% in being minus with worst being -89 bin and best over +300 bin.

Now as said this is for 5% roi player. If we can achieve 10% roi these simulations looks lot more securing:

Spoiler

But even our solid winning reg still has decent chance for being on minus in 200 games. In 2000 games on other hand it starts to be extremely unlikely.

Personally I have always been on very safe side with BRM. Well outside absolute beginning. But when poker became serious income I would say my sng BRM has most of time been more like 200+ bins. Safe approach does give mental shield as you can just shrug off most swings and not even have need to worry about bankroll. Now when banroll is still small and there is possibility to replace it going for extremely safe bankroll is unnecessary and likely not good idea. As it also does hinder moving up in buyins quite a bit. But of course BRM requirement for someone having poker as main income or more as hobby are not totally comparable.

When we talk about new player without history in format there is also question if EV roi is prositive or not. Obviously for losing player there is no such thing as safe BRM as he is losing in long run. But thing is that most of us are losing players at beginning and we will pay some "learning money" before our skills are good enough to start beating games. I were lucky enough to receive starting bankroll for free twice from PS. First one was gone pretty quickly and without second one I might not have become familiar with sng games which are main format for me these days.

Thanks very much for that input Ghaleon, very insightful indeed. Just goes to show how badly I miscalculated the potential variance in these STTs!

No poker for the last two days, not even a second of study. Friday's have become movie night with the family which is quickly becoming my favourite day of the week!

Work on Saturday is pretty hectic so I'm nearly too shattered to fire up some games or study. Hoping to get a decent nights sleep in tonight, then get up before everyone to do an hour or two of poker study (used to this for college and that worked out good)

Then towards the afternoon I'll grind some SNGs and I'm tempted to fire the $11 Big Bounty Hunter on partypoker tomorrow as a once off treat!

GL at the tables and have a great weekend everyone :)
