Coach chenny8888 Wins New Zealand Poker Open
Our Sit and Go coach chenny8888 recently played in the New Zealand Poker Open and managed to take home the trophy and first place prize. We caught up with him and asked about his recent victory, his plans for this summer and more.
On Monday, PokerStrategy.com coach and video producer chenny8888 won the New Zealand Poker Open, cashing approximately $22,900 (NZD 34,000) for his efforts. The buy-in was $750 (NZD 1,100) and a total of 125 players took part in this tournament.
Since this is a great accomplishment for him and our community (but probably a bad news for the potential chenny8888 haters that are going to hate), we decided to ask him a few questions, see how he's doing after his victory, who he prefers more - or waiboy - and other things of equal importance. If you haven't attended his coaching sessions yet, you now have another reason to do so (the other reason is his fantastic English accent).

PokerStrategy.com: Hello there, chenny, congratulations on winning the New Zealand Poker Open! How do you feel after this victory?
chenny8888: I’m pretty much the same. I sort of trained myself to not let my mood depend on my results after my downswings, but it feels a bit better anyway.
PokerStrategy.com: How was the event for you? Did you like or dislike anything in particular about it?
chenny8888: The event was great, the field was extremely soft and I felt I exploited it to a great extent. I disliked one particular blind jump where we suddenly had 20bb instead of 40bb or something in effective stacks, which meant I was getting re-pushed on a ton preflop, but otherwise I quite liked the generally slow and deep structure of it.
PokerStrategy.com: Were there any players that caught your attention? Did Waiboy attend this?
chenny8888: I was lucky to have an extremely soft table with no one playing back at me for the most part. I had position on every single good player that was on my table which helped a ton. I recognised a bunch of them just from playing cash games at the casino with them earlier... I did not catch Waiboy, no.
PokerStrategy.com: If you were to spend your tournament winnings right now, what would you buy and why?
chenny8888: I’d probably get a Nissan 350z because it is a damn sexy car. But I’m too much of a nit and I just decided to save a big chunk instead (smiles).

PokerStrategy.com: How often do you actually play live poker? Will this recent victory affect the number of hours you'll spend at NZ casinos with people like waiboy?
chenny8888: I wasn't actually aware Waiboy went to the casino [ed. note: neither was I, it was just a shot in the dark], but really, I play live poker something like three times a month. With this victory it means I'm probably going to play a lot more local live tournaments.
I'm also going to Vegas later this month to take part in the WSOP and I might head to other nearby Asian and Pacific countries to play events after that. Outside of tournaments, though, I'm probably going to play about the same amount as before.
PokerStrategy.com: So your summer looks pretty booked. If you win a WSOP bracelet, will you dedicate the victory to me?
chenny8888: I'll try. The bracelet stays with me though. Those things are BOSS.
PokerStrategy.com: Trying is not good enough. As for the bracelet, you can have it - you know what Patrik Antonius said about them. Now for a little test: if you were to save either or waiboy from a vicious prison rape (don't ask why), who would you spare?
chenny8888: Neither. justkyle88 looks like he'd be the rapist, and he seems like he'd be quite good at it. Waiboy stands no chance.
PokerStrategy.com: Well thanks for attracting the hatred of fellow countrymen, as well as perpetuating the one coming from Australians. That being said, is there anything you would like to add?
chenny8888: Learn to flop good and win flips. It is very profitable.
