Interview with Leon Walters
PokerStrategy.com: Since PKR was founded, what do you consider to be the 3 main milestones for PKR in history?
Leon Walters: Well obviously our launch was the biggest milestone. We had a great deal of belief in what we were doing, but actually had no idea if the rest of the world would think so. On a negative, being unable to take US players just before we launched was a massive change that took the wind out of our sails. Beyond that, the next software update that’s due to come out quite soon will be the single most significant release we’ve done, with lots of new features aimed out our core poker audience.
PokerStrategy.com: Which single features are you most proud of?
Leon Walters: I think we’ve proved that online gambling can be fun and social. I’m very proud of the fact that we have built a very loyal and positive community more than any technical achievements in particular. There’s obviously a lot of well considered design behind making that community tick, but that’s just a means to an end.
PokerStrategy.com: You are the first poker room with the 3D feature. Do you think other poker rooms will follow your example?
Leon Walters: I think it would be very arrogant and pretty dumb for me to think that our competitors aren’t at least giving it a shot. I assume they are but it’s not as simple as just building it, there are a lot of critical creative and technical decisions that you need to get right in order to succeed. As well as being very, very judicious about who you hire. Give me 3 great programmers over a room full of contractors any day of the week.
"A whole new approach to multi-tabling"
PokerStrategy.com: Would you give us a short outlook on your plans for the future? Will there be new amazing features? Can you maybe already tell us about one the players can look forward to?
Leon Walters: We’ve been doing few side projects over the past year or so and I’m conscious of the fact that we’ve not done enough for our core poker audience. This summer we’re releasing an update that will have an all new user interface, perhaps most significantly a whole new approach to multi-tabling. We have a lot more to come after that as well, a busy time ahead.
PokerStrategy.com: PKR aims at the casual player with less abilities to multi table and less game speed. Do you have any plans to make the game more attractive for more experienced poker players?
Leon Walters: Well, I’m sure . We’ve also spent some time working on game speed and the new version has been optimized for performance. Players will definitely notice some improvements.
PokerStrategy.com: Have you ever thought of introducing an alternative 2D version for this group?
Leon Walters: Yes, we have thought of it and discuss it quite regularly. I know we could make the best 2D software in the industry that could fully integrate with the 3D product and deliver a great experience to users who perhaps don’t have the hardware to run the 3D version. Will we ever actually release it? I’ve no idea!
PokerStrategy.com: What is your advice towards our players playing or trying out PKR?
Leon Walters: Enjoy yourself, interact with other players and have fun. We have some great incentives and promotions for new players in the way of free tickets, free rolls and cash giveaways so focus on those and not the play money tables.
