A close spot with 'three pair'

We take a deep dive into a HexaPro hand between Barry Carter and David Lappin where one player won the hand, the other won the war.

Last month our editor Barry Carter recorded a session for the Unibet sponsored Chip Race podcast where he and David Lappin played some Hexapros against each other. Today we take a deep dive into one of the hands:

24 BBs effective, I complete with 6T - not sure what you think of the hand selection there but I presume I'm playing close to 100% of hands here?

Dara O'Kearney: We only really fold the really bad unsuited stuff like 84o or worse, so it's a standard call. We are supposed to do a bit of raising, because we will raise the top of our range to induce, so we need raise/folds too, this is the right kind of hand to do it because we don't lose much equity folding this to a 3bet.

The flop is T5T and we flop trips. I often don't lead out here because it's hard for David to have anything, but I know my image with Lappin is I often 'show off' with trash hands so I can post it on social media, so I lead out here.

David Lappin: Always with the metagame.

Dara O'Kearney: Lappin played a hand recently on a similar board where he called down with J6o.

David calls, the turn is an Aand we bet again, he calls.

David Lappin: I must have a hand here, I can't remember what it was, I'm guessing I have the 5.

The river is a 9. I presumed he was calling with a flush draw or an Ace so I checked to give him a chance to bluff it or value bet against me, I didn't think he calls two streets with a 5.

But he checks back to reveal he had 95, which essentially three pair.

David Lappin: That's an interesting check back, maybe there was some metagame going on in my mind because I think this would be a reasonable thin value bet on this river when Barry checks.

Dara O'Kearney: This is a bit nitty, he could probably have a 5. But it's Barry so he does get a bit trappy in this spots. It's super close, against a normal player I think it's a bet, but against Barry it's a check.

David Lappin: I am having a flashback now that I felt super smug that you didn't trap me.

Dara O'Kearney: Barry won the pot but you won the hand.
