Amazon Datacenter Struck by Lightning, PokerStrategy.com Videos unavailable
Following a thunderstorm in Ireland, a local Amazon datacenter got struck by lightning, causing a power outage that also affects the PokerStrategy.com video servers. We are currently working on resolving the problem as fast as possible.
PokerStrategy.com is relying on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for video hosting. Working with a third-party-solution for videos makes sense as it offers great availability around the globe with enough bandwidth even at peak times.
The downside is obviously that we have little influence in a situation of unavailabilty like we are facing today. Following a lightning strike that happened last night, the AWS datacenter in Ireland suffered a power outage that affected several customers in Europe and also our video hosting.
Amazon IT staff is working around the clock to resolve the issue, but we can not give an estimate yet when the videos will return. We apologize for any inconvienence caused and hope to be back as soon as possible.
UPDATE #1:
We're currently migrating to another data center and will be able to deliver the first videos within the next hours. But it will take up to 24h to have all videos up and running again. Older videos might be viewable already by now.
UPDATE #2 (09/08):
Migrating videos to another data center takes longer than expected. More and more video will be working again, but it will take until Thursday until the migration is 100% completed.
