Who is Carsten Bruns?

carstenbruns: Greetings PokerStrategists, my name is Carsten Bruns and I'm a mental coach. I've been playing mid and high stakes successfully for years and I provide coaching for players who want to improve their mindset, in order to control themselves and their opponents more successfully. To this end, I offer private coaching sessions as well as seminars.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: How has poker affected your life?

carstenbruns: Poker has had a predominantly positive effect on my life. In financial terms, it's given me lots of freedom, which has allowed me to develop a different approach to money than others around me have. I have the opportunity to travel regularly and have collected lots of toys and gadgets, as boys like to do.

Personally, playing poker has helped me develop many skills, such as self-discipline and an ability to grasp things quickly. It's also given me the opportunity to re-think my approach to my professional life and to ultimately do what I want to! Without poker, I would probably have never had this opportunity.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: What goals do you have as a mental coach?

carstenbruns: My aim is to help my students blossom to their full potential. I want to put them up against exciting challenges and continually push them to give more. At the same time, I find ways to put them in a balanced and focused state of mind. That's my approach to achieving a marked and enduring improvement in performance in a short time span. For me, the special appeal of mental coaching is that I'm always learning things as well and at the end, both parties profit, financially and personally.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: Which of your skills help you most when coaching poker players?

carstenbruns: Primarily my own experience from over one million hands at mid and high stakes. As far as I'm aware, there's no other mental coach who has successfully played poker themselves to that extent. That means I know exactly what mental stress you're under as a poker player and can better understand the concerns of my students than an outsider.

On top of that are my NLP skills (neuro-linguistic programming), hypnosis and MET (meridian energy techniques), from which I apply the best methods and techniques for poker players and adapt them individually to my students.

To compliment this, myself and best-selling author and seminar leader Rainer Franke (who developed the MET method) are holding a seminar in Cannes on October 14 2011 to accompany the WSOP Europe. Through a combination of my poker experience and the methods and techniques of mental coaching, I have an insight that allows me to systematically exploit my students' individual potential to the full.

AdminPokerStrategy.com: What kind of content can we expect from you?

carstenbruns: Everything to do with mental coaching. Suggestions and feedback on this are very welcome. I'll also be looking at topics from different perspectives and presenting content which hasn't been fathomed out up to now. So start getting excited!
