Not many players understand the difference between break-even and indifferent right away. At first sight, the two terms seem to mean the same.

When villain bluffs with an equity of 0% it is indeed like that. However, when a villain actually has equity, we're trying to keep them indifferent by preventing them generating more equity than they're due.

In the first part of his series "Defence Secretary", Tackleberry explained the basics of post-flop defence and defending equity share as well as the principle of indifference and the formula "1-alpha".
