Flip & Go gets a revamp
Flip & Go Renewal gives you multiple shots at the Flip stage so you are playing for a much bigger prize pool.
GGPoker started the year with the launch of Flip & Go, an innovative fast format where the first table is forced all-in and the survivors of each table are automatically in the money. It then plays out like a regular MTT.
It was ideal for players wanting a quick game but like to play final tables. Also the Flip stage, while high variance, is not as gambley as some might think.
This week they launched Flip & Go Renewal, with some adjustments that will ensure the prizes being played for are much bigger. The buy-ins are currently as they were before $0.05/$0.50/$3/$20.
Instead of being every 30 minutes, the tournaments are every hour on the hour. However, you can play several Flip stages leading up to that, one every ten minutes. Much like a phase tournament with several Day 1s.
If you win the Flip stage you can play the further stages and any other ones you win will see the chips you win added to your eventual stack in Stage 2. You can only buy five entries per each flip stage, where it was eight in the old version.
More money and more chips
The effect of this is that the prize pools are much bigger, with more players contesting them. For example the $3 Flip & Go tournaments tended to only have 7-9 players in the final stage with a top prize around $200. Now there are closer to 25 players in that final stage with over $600 for top prize.
The other impact is the chips are more widely dispersed. They already were because if you are dealt a very strong three card hand in the flip stage you get bonus chips, but now because players can win multiple flips you get some monster chip leaders.
The enhanced prize pools could make Flip & Go even more popular, however for some who have been looking at the game as a 'quick' poker fix, you essentially have an extra hour of play if you want to play all the flip stages.
This adjustment is hot on the heels of Battle Royale, another fun fast format that is helping make GGPoker the vanguard for poker innovation that has seen them overtake PokerStars for traffic.
