We chat to a member from Argentina, who climbed from $0.25 Spins to $60 Spins in just over a year, about his ratio of play to study.
You have moved from $0.25 Spins to $60 Spins in just over a year, what would you attribute that speed of progress to?
Well, I didn’t have to build a bankroll by myself, so that helps a lot. So, I only cared about increasing my skills. I wasn’t working really hard the first 2-3 months but it was easy to move up once I start grinding/studying more.
What games were you playing before and what made you join SpinLegends?
I played cash games for like two weeks, and I busted the $10 that I deposited. So, I wanted to improve at poker, and that’s how I found PokerStrategy.com, and as a consequence SpinLegends. I sent my application because I saw they gave you a bankroll to play and a winning strategy/coaching and I wanted to be part of it.
To be honest I sent my application not expecting to get a positive answer, because I didn’t have any graph or a solid background, but I was accepted anyway.
What was the toughest level to move up from?
I wouldn’t say it was tough, but probably $15, because I had to do 6,000 Spins to move up. It’s the first level where you start playing some regs over and over again.

At what stake do those regulars start getting good?
Following the previous answer, I guess the $15s is where regulars start getting good. A lot of them have leaks in their games, but this is the first level where you start doing some nice reg v reg play.
What mistakes do you think most small stakes Spin players make?
In general, small stakes are pretty easy because everybody makes a lot of mistakes. If I have to name one, the vast majority have preflop issues, which leads to awkward post flop situations, and if it happens, the whole sequence is going to be incorrect.
What is the biggest strategy adjustment you had to make in the $15-$30 games?
I wouldn’t say I had a huge strategy adjustment. It’s more like a lot of smaller adjustments I’ve made (and I’m still doing) to play better every day.
You’ll face stronger players more often as you move up, but the game is always the same.

What is your ratio of play to study, and what is the most effective way for you to learn?
My volume isn’t really good (I try to do 1,800/month) but I feel like improving is more important at this point. I don’t want to do some massive volume repeating the same mistakes over and over again. My ratio would look like study 3:1 play.
About learning, I always try to think about the logic behind EVERY move, and I think that’s the best way to learn, being curious and constant. That’s the way I learn and I’m still using this formula.
Are Spins your full-time job now? At what stake did the money really start to mean something?
They’re my main income, although I’m still studying in the university. I guess in a country like mine, money starts meaning something at $15, although it could be relative for each person.
What is the economy and job opportunity outlook in Argentina for a young guy like yourself? Are Spins your best option or is it a risk for you to do them when you could be working on a career in another field?
Well, the economy/job opportunity is terrible here. I wouldn’t say playing poker is a risk. It is a logic skill based game where in a long run you’re going to be winning money if you’re better than your opponents. Even if I could be working somewhere else, I really enjoy playing/studying poker, so I wouldn’t change that.
What are your long-term goals with Spins, poker and your career in general?
My long-term goals are improving as much as I could and maybe play $250 Spins before 2021. There are still a lot of things to learn, concepts to incorporate, leaks to solve, but I’m optimistic about it.
What would your advice be to somebody who wants to make an income with Spin & Go?
My advice would be that if you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start.
