"Poker paid for university" - juanra016

We chat to our Diamond member who is our biggest grinder on the Chico network about how poker has allowed him to get an education.

Would you consider yourself a successful poker player?

juanra016: Not really, if I was a good player I would be playing NL500+. I don’t consider myself a good player, my playing has a lot of errors and issues. Between fish or shark I would say I’m a barracuda or something like that.

How would your life look without poker? Or, asked the other way around - what has playing poker allowed you to do/achieve?

juanra016: Surely I would not have had so many experiences. With poker I have travelled, bought a car, went out to good places a lot, helped with expenses at home (I’m still living with my parents) but what makes me most proud is that I finished a university degree (I am an international business manager) all paid with what I won in poker.

Which game type do you play and how do you improve your game?

juanra016: Currently I play cash games on NL50/100. For a long time I didn't do anything to improve, just play and get my livelihood, this is why I consider myself a mediocre player, but in the last few weeks I have been watching videos and comparing concepts. This year I’ve realized that I was playing poker in the same way it was played 11 years ago.

We know that you play on our partners at the Chico network (home of BetOnline). How do you like the traffic there?

juanra016: If we compare the site with the bigger ones it may seem that it is very little but I think it has enough traffic to play 8 tables at the same time at NL100 even NL200.

And what about the opponents - always the same regs or new fish all the time?

juanra016: Both, the same regulars are found every day, but there are also many recreational players, which makes the game not monotonous.

Do you play with a tracker? What is your biggest achievement and where do you want to go?

juanra016: I play with HM2, despite my bad game I could beat NL50 for several years with stable earnings (making it possible to be independent, yes, I live in a country where this is possible in NL50 but not to be rich).

In the future I want to have a large amount of capital to invest or start a business that allows me to diversify my income (I don’t want to just depend on poker), for this I must aim to be a winner at least in NL200.

How do you withdraw all your winnings? Do you have an easy time with Crypto payments?

juanra016: Until last year I had cashed out all that I had earned, but ending 2021 I decided to start leaving part to grow my bankroll, seeing this concept as a saving or investment since, after all, I can dispose of it whenever I want, but the idea is to reach upper limits step by step.

I currently use BTC as a method of withdrawal, it’s fast and cheap for getting the money in local currency later.

We do know that you grind a lot, but what do you do as a balance to poker, what are your big hobbies?

juanra016: Currently I work for a logistics company from Monday to Friday, then I go to the gym and then at night, I play poker (Monday to Thursday), I don't play on weekends because I dedicate to other things - drinking, eating all kind of food, party, family and friends and also resting.

Thank you very much for the catch up!

juanra016: It’s a pleasure.

In order to take part, simply opt-in to the daily leaderboards and collect a share of over $60,000 in rewards throughout the month. This time the rewards are given away through the new $2,000 Nightly Freerolls, running every day this May at 21:00 ET.

In order to get a seat in these freerolls, you'll have to earn it in one of the three leaderboards on offer listed below, running every day from 0:00 ET to 20:00 ET, with a total of 500 seats given away every day. Hold'em Cash Games Leaderboard

The by far most popular game will offer a daily High Hand leaderboard, where players get to collect points at any stake level and compete in an equal playing field for their seat in the $2,000 Nightly Freeroll.

All it takes is a big hand to top the leaderboard in this competition, giving anyone a real shot at a big payday. The top 200 will each earn a seat in the Nightly Freeroll at 21:00 ET.

PLO Cash Games Leaderboard

A separate leaderboard will take place in the same fashion for all the Omaha addicts out there, allowing them to collect high hands and a freeroll seat for the Top 200 every day.
