The turning point: Madness or Sparta?

We had a good thing going on the Flop with out nut draw. What changed on the Turn?

Today we have this hand from NL50 Zoom at PokerStars. Our Hero decided to passively defend his big blind with a strong hand. Both calling and 3-betting in this spot would be reasonable, but Hero decided not to increase variance against an unknown player just yet.

Flop brings us a combo draw - a nut flush draw with a gutshot. Sometimes our ace outs are also valid, so overall, we have good equity against the Villain's range and we draw to nut hands mostly. Considering this, hero decides that aggressive line is preferable. Taking the pot right after our check/raise should be satisfying as well.

But, our opponent also has something to fight for on this Flop, so he calls the raise. The blank Turn card brings us nothing, so now we have to make another decision and we're going to need your help.

Since we have the initiative, we could continue our attack in the same way we would do with strong made hands. There are two ways for it; one of them being a 'regular' c-bet and the other - an all-in shove, Sparta-style. That said, it's also good to know when to stop. After all, our equity on the Turn doesn't look great now. Maybe it's time to play cautiously and just check to call the Villain's bet... Well, you know what to do!

Last week, you responded – all of you – by calling. That’s right, call won everywhere across 703 votes starting from 48% in Portuguese community to 78% in its Spanish equivalent. Not much in terms of surprising results this time.

While the second-best title was claimed by the shove, it really only came close to winning in the Portuguese community with 43% but in Spain, call was so popular that it didn't leave much space for the other two options, and they got almost equal number of votes.
