Your 2019 gameplan from SpinLegends
If you are looking to crush Spin & Go next year, or any other format, here is some of the best advice to start 2019 from the team at SpinLegends.
Play less tables

The days of putting in huge volume for rakeback are gone. The best thing you can do to make money is to learn how to extract more chips from your opponents by developing your reads on them, which you can't do with eight tables at once.
At SpinLegends we start our players on less tables, not more, at the small stakes. We want them to really get a grip with things like post flop poker, ChipEV and the difference between GTO and exploitative play. That way, when they move up stakes where the money means something, they will be well equipped to crush.
Learn to study alone
At SpinLegends we pride ourselves on having a wide range of study methods, from exclusive videos, hand reviews and coaching sessions. Different things work for different players and we cover all bases.
However, all our coaches have observed that the ability to review hands by yourself is a massive skill to have (some would even say a master trait). Some of our players who have struggled to get to the higher levels also struggle with this aspect of study. So in 2019 try your best to learn to review your play on your own - you can always come back for help when you get stuck on something.

Learn to beat the regulars
In almost all of our interviews with players who are doing well at SpinLegends we ask them when the stakes start getting tough. Some say the $15s, some say the $30s, some say the $60s. While they may not agree on the stakes, the reason they all give is that they meet resistance when the regulars start getting tough.
So when you are doing that self study, and with a coach, spend more of your time sweating the hands where a good regular put you in a difficult spot than whether you could have extracted more money from a fun player.
Learn to watch a video

We love training videos at SpinLegends, but they can be ineffective if you just sit there and passively watch and hope the information will enter your brain. Heed the advice of our top coach Epistokrat on this topic:
Whenever you watch a video, stop the video and think about the spot BEFORE the coach gives you the solution. It is easy to say , "yes I would have played the same" in hindsight. Totally different if you have to make the decision a priori.
Understand how much variance is involved
It doesn't matter if it is Spins or any other format, a lot of players struggle with variance in part because they don't truly understand it.
You should know, for example, that a player with a 36% win rate could easily go on a 111 buy-in downswing (or a 460 buy-in upswing) in Spins. We document it here in this article on variance.
Play around with variance software like SwongSim so you know what you are getting yourself in for. A downswing will still hurt, but not as much.
