Starting this Monday, Britain prepares to go tennis mad for two weeks of Wimbledon but who will come out on top?

Andy Murray Wimbledon Champion

Nothing brings an end to a UK summer heatwave faster than Wimbledon fortnight. Which means, as of Monday, Brits can expect rain and plenty of it. But what dramas can we expect to see on the court?

Well, for the men, Britain’s Andy Murray is the world number one and reigning champion ensuring there is plenty of home interest in the 30-year-old from Scotland. Form has been an issue for Murray though with an early unexpected exit at Queens last week now compounded by a potential hip injury that has seen withdraw from pre-Wimbledon exhibition matches.

One player seemingly returning to previous form, however, is popular Spaniard Rafa Nadal, fresh from yet another win at Roland Garos in Paris where he remains just about unbeatable. Injuries had forced the former World number one to plummet down the rankings but now finds himself fourth in the betting and, as a Wimbledon winner twice before, we can expect a flurry of bets for the Majorcan especially if Murray fails to recover in time.

Other likely men include world number five, and recently installed favourite, Roger Federer going for a possible men's record eighth title and Novak Djokovic, another former number one who’s form has deserted him this year but who’s class ensures he is still a threat.

In the women’s side of the draw, there is no Serena Williams this year which significantly opens up the betting. Serena’s sister Venus will be there though and is one of only two former champions taking part, the other being Petra Kvitova, a two-time winner here previously.

Karolina Pliskova is the female favourite, closely followed, in the betting at least, by Brit Johanna Konta, who, although only ever winning one Wimbledon match, has climbed to 7th in the world rankings and will be looking to provide Wimbledon with its first British female champion since Virginia Wade in 1977.
