Sir Baal

First things first, who is Sir Baal?

Sir Baal: I’m a 26 year old guy from Barcelona and I live with my girlfriend. I’ve been a professional poker player since 2010.

In my free time, I like doing sports, any sports, though lately I’m more inclined towards swimming.

When did you discover poker?

Sir Baal: It was while I was working. I had an injury in my ankle which had me staying at home for a long time. Since that moment, I started researching ways to make a quick buck. I discovered poker, started with Play Money and, after a couple of weeks I went to PokerStrategy.com and started following their strategies and taking it seriously.

I started in NL5 FR cash and climbed the levels up to NL500 Zoom short handed, all this thanks to PokerStrategy’s videos and a private coach I decided to hire.

"Spins were a personal challenge"

Why did you join SpinLegends?

Sir Baal: I decided to join SpinLegends because cash was not motivating me enough and I saw Spins as a way of capitalizing my work and as a motivation because I was learning something new. It was a personal challenge. I contacted Álvaro Romero, he explained the project and the rest is history.

What do you think of the education provided by the school?

Sir Baal: When I first joined, I was pleasantly surprised to see the huge amount of educational material they had; I would have never thought there could have been such a high quality large syllabus. I believe it was a great decision and I do recommend it to anybody who wants to play Spins.

You’re one of the better regs playing on PokerStars.es. Have you ever thought about migrating to .com?

Sir Baal: Not right now, my life is with my girlfriend in Barcelona. However, maybe soon we could move to Malta.

What qualities would you say a player needs to succeed in poker?

Sir Baal: If you want to be a professional player, you need motivation, perseverance and patience. And it’s not enough having one of those qualities; you can only succeed if all three qualities converge continually.

"There is a knowledge gap in Spins"

SpinLegends

What is a normal day for you?

Sir Baal: On a normal day I usually wake up around 11:00am, I work out either at the gym, running or go for a swim. I have lunch at around 14:00 and then I start grinding or preparing coachings until 19.30 when my girlfriend comes home. We do some chores (poker players also need clean clothes haha), spend some time together and at 22:00 I start grinding again or studying until 2am or so.

How tough are the €50 spins on .es?

Sir Baal: When I started I thought they would be tougher, but I’ve got the feeling that lately there are more regs and getting harder. However, I still think there’s a big knowledge gap in Spins and if you work on your game, you could have a very big evROI.

Have you enjoyed being a coach?

Sir Baal: The experience has been awesome, I get a lot of people on Skype expressing their gratitude and that motivates me a lot to get better and to teach better.
I always try to divide the time between theoretical and practical lessons. I believe you need a combination of both to improve.

Do you use any software to improve your game?

Sir Baal: Mostly PT4 to check my hands. Flopzilla to analyse in detail post flop situations and coffecalcs to help with my game pre-flop.

What do you do on your free time?

Sir Baal: I like doing new things. Mostly sports. Sometimes watching a TV series or playing one of those super addictive video games.

What goals do you have for the year?

Sir Baal: The main one is volume, something that sometimes I find a bit difficult. I also want to keep on working on my game and broaden my knowledge to be a better coach.
