partypoker appoint Mike Sexton as chairman

In an announcement made by GVC Holdings Plc, Mike Sexton has been appointed as Chairman of partypoker meaning he leaves behind WPT role.

Mike Sexton

After 15 years in the role, Mike Sexton will leave his position as World Poker Tour commentator to take up an exciting new role as chairman of the partypoker brand.

Sexton, who helped found partypoker 16 years ago, returns to the company full time having played an ambassadorial role for the card room alongside performing his WPT duties since 2003.

Thanks in no small part to Sexton’s involvement, the WPT quickly developed into a pioneering live tour and partypoker will be looking to utilise some of that same experience from the man who holds a WSOP bracelet, Poker Hall of Fame membership as well as becoming a WPT Champion in November last year.

An emotional time

As chairman, Sexton’s influence for partypoker will extend beyond representing the global poker community and in to areas such as software development, loyalty reward programs and customer service standards. He will also oversee promotions, maintain a safe and fair site and further develop partypoker Live into a leading tour, capitalising on being the first online poker room to host a huge live event in Sochi, Russia, earlier this year.

Sexton commented;

“This is an emotional time for me because I have decided to leave the World Poker Tour to focus on this new role. I was at partypoker from the start, before there was even a name or a single virtual card was dealt”

Sexton’s place in the WPT commentary box will be filled by the incoming Tony Dunst, himself a party ambassador. Dunst, with $2,871,222 in live cash winnings, will join Vince van Patten as a full-time commentator.
