Steven van Zadelhoff wins WCOOP Main Event
Another well known name takes down online poker's 'Main Event' even though he won less than he expected to.
Always the biggest event of the year for online poker, the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) $5,200 Main Event attracted 1,804 entries and 379 re-entries to eclipse its guarantee and ensure $1,624,502.27 to its eventual winner.
That honour goes to well known Dutch tournament pro and former Sunday Million winner Steven "SvZff" van Zadelhoff.
No deal was made at the final table, meaning Canadian player 'joshuah333' also ended the day a millionaire, finishing 2nd for $1,173,712.87.
It wasn't all good fortune for van Zadelhoff, however, as on the morning of the final table he realised he had forgot to book all of the swaps he made with fellow players, meaning he discovered he was only playing for 16% of his action, rather than the expected 28%, which is about the unluckiest thing that could happen within a very lucky poker moment.
However, it's still a very nice score for him and perhaps more importantly he joins an elite group of players to win online poker's 'Main Event' alongside big names like JC Tran, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Fedor Holz.
Elsewhere the $215 WCOOP Low Main Event attracted 15,626 players and was won by Finnish player 'jaloviina007' for $331,278.87 after a heads-up deal.
