Johansson Wins Irish Open 2009
The Irish Open 2009 came to an end with Christer Johansson outlasting seven other players at the final table. Andrew Pantling ended his run in third place, while the EPT Live presenter Kara Scott almost won her first major tournament.
Day 4 of the Irish Open 2009 saw some late arrivals and earlydepartures. Andy Bradshaw went AWOL before the beginning of the final
table and when he finally arrived, he made his exit on the very first hand.
Atanas Gueorguiev moved all-in with and Bradshaw called with
. The board came
and it marked the end of Bradshaw's brief appearance at the final table, for which he earned €56,000.
Bradley Verburg didn't last much longer either, busting out only moments later. He moved all-in with and got called from the chip leader Andrew Pantling. The board revealed
and gave Pantling top pair.
Verburg still had some outs and with the turn card , things looked even more promising for him, as he now had a flush draw. However, the river brought
and sealed Verburg's path to the title.
it was William Kassouf who had to leave his seat in sixth place which
earned him €100,900.
Next to leave his seat was a short-stacked Lee Brooke-Pearce. he made a move with and ran into Pantling's
which was enough to send him home, as Pantling caught another king on the turn.
Rest of the day saw the chip lead being passed
back and forth between Gueorguiev, Pantling and Kara Scott.

and Gueorguiev re-raised. Scott fired back a four-bet and Gueorguiev moved all-in with pocket kings, which Scott called.
The flop came , not the kind of cards Scott was hoping for. The turn was no different, bringing out the

on the river gave Scott the lead and Gueorguiev was sent home with a fourth-place finish.
Andrew Pantling was a force to be reckoned with for most of the
tournament, but his aggressive style fell short just before the
heads-up play. His last hand at the final table featured some pre-flop
action before he eventually went all-in with .
Christer Johansson called with
and managed to come on top of Pantling after another queen came on the
river. Pantling packed up his bags and the action was down to the final
two players, Johansson and Scott.
After nearly an hour of heads-up play, Johansson was the last player
seated at the table, thus winning the title and €600,000. The EPT Live
presenter Kara Scott recorded an amazing run which ended just one place
short of the title for which she received €312,600.
