Deeb Does Double

First Viktor “Isildur1” Blom secured two SCOOP titles and now Shaun Deeb has done the same.

The online MTT pro joined 67 other world-class players for the $2,100 Triple Stud event and proved that sometimes, to be successful in poker, you need to look beyond the worlds of Hold'em and Omaha.

The desire to be different has certainly paid off for Deeb as he managed to carve his way through multiple rounds of Limit Stud, Stud Hi-Lo and Razz to claim his second SCOOP title of 2012 and his third overall (only the second player to achieve this feat).

The select field ensured a final table full of top players, but that didn’t seem to faze the ever confident Deeb.

After watching the likes of Brian “$tinger 88” Hastings (7th - $6,120) and Eugene “E. Katchalov” Katchalov (3rd - $20,400) hit the rail, it was only the UK’s Steven “stevie444” Chidwick who stood in Deeb's way.

Deeb grinded his opponent down though, and quickly scooped the remainder of Chidwick’s chips to take home $44,200.

The Micros Reformatted

After four months of virtual silence you’d be forgiven for thinking that The Micros had been resigned to the same place Full Tilt’s head honchos currently reside.

Funding issues have slowed production but the creators have found a new medium for their virtual poker punning trio.
 
The Micros web comic will now offer fans a regular stream of laughs (or groans) in pictorial form. The first issue is already out, with more planned for the near future.

Spain Raise Tax Stakes

The Spanish government’s new regulatory demand has raised the stakes for any company wanting to offer online poker within their borders.

With just three weeks until the first batch of licences are due to be issued, the authorities have demanded that any company that provided online poker before the Gaming Act, February 2011, must pay backdated tax from 2008.

Originally it was expected that sites would have to pay tax from July 2011. However, the government has now said it wants payment from the last 4 years of service.

For many companies, this latest move will be too much of a bankroll dent and may force them to withdraw their applications. It’s reported that bwin.party owes €60 million, while PokerStars owes €200 million.

The exit of the larger operators may allow other companies to gain some market share, but at the moment it’s unclear exactly who will stick around to offer online poker in Spain.

High Stakes Corner

In the last 24 hours “Domce” has managed to bank the largest high stakes haul. The online grinder raked in $130,552 in just 621 hands, which was over $30,000 more than Chris “Genius28” Lee who won $93,914.

PokerStrategy.com’s Dan junglemandan Cates also had a profitable day at the virtual felt, logging off with a profit of $42,817.

“YoussefAhmed” and “Phisherman36” were the day’s biggest losers. The former lost $92,635, while the latter waved goodbye to $81,005.
