83-year-old wins 888 Poker Main Event
Proving age is just a number, Lillian Welch crushed a 318-strong field in the UKPL Main Event.
The 888poker UKPL headed to Blackpool last week for one of the most popular legs of the tour.
The £560 Main Event crushed the £100,000 guarantee with 318 entries.
In what will no doubt become one of the most popular wins ever on the tour, 83-year-old local Lilian Welch took down the main event for £31,390.
She did a three-way deal with Frankie Mok and former GUKPT champion Brian Clarke to take the lion's share of the prize pool.
A Cinderella story
Welch is a regular fixture at the Crona Casino in Blackpool and was as shocked as anybody in her winners interview with Phil "the Tower" Heald.
This is one of those great poker Cinderella stories that proves that anyone can win in this game. With all the attention we place on triton crushers and GTO theory, this is a useful reminder that poker is a particularly popular pursuit with older players.
