WSOP Colossus shatters attendance records
A full house at the Rio as the Colossus attracts the biggest field in poker history.
As predicted, the first ever open bracelet event with a $565 buy-in has shattered all previous attendance records.
With four starting flights and a maximum one re-entry per flight, on Friday and Saturday, it was a packed affair at the Rio. In total there were 22,374 entries and re-entries.
The previous record for largest poker field was 8,773 unique entries in 2006, when Jamie Gold took down the Main Event. That was of course a freezeout event, and as yet the breakdown of entries and re-entries has not been released.
$638,880 to the winner
This has created an overall prize pool of $11,187,000, with a first prize of $638,880. 2,241 players will make the money.
Some corners had complained that such a low buy-in devalued the bracelet, but it is hard to deny those staggering numbers. Further proof that the game is still growing.
At the time of writing we are in the money and around 2,000 players remain. Notable players still in the field include Andre Akkari, Aaron Massey, Taylor Paur, Erick Lindgren and Brandon Cantu.
Congratulations to everyone at the World Series of Poker for such a colossal achievement. It bodes very well for the rest of the series.
