Jason Somerville breaks Twitch viewing record
Poker had the most viewed channel on Twitch last night as 'jcarverpoker' makes a WCOOP final table in front of a record audience.
Proving he is the most valuable sponsored pro in poker right now, Jason Somerville has once again lit up the game on Twitch.
Last night he made the final table of the $700 Progressive Super Knockout WCOOP event in front of a record audience of 37,000 simultaneous viewers.
This beats his previous record of around 22,000 viewers when he made the final table of the Super Tuesday earlier this year. It also made his account the most watched channel on Twitch, while he was playing.
WCOOP is becoming a spectator sport
Somerville didn't win the event, that honour went to Showtime43, who took it down for $98,048.91 + $28,470.05 in bounties. Somerville exited in 6th for $22,673.50 + $15,666.29 in bounties.
This is obviously fantastic news for poker, Somerville, PokerStars and Twitch as the game continues to be exposed to a new audience. Last month in our interview with Matthew Hilger, he revealed that this year's WCOOP schedule has been optimised so that the final tables play out at peak times for the Twitch audience.
With such great early viewing figures at the start of WCOOP, the $51,000 Super High Roller event next weekend could be another Twitch record breaker.
