Black Member 2nd in FTOPS XVII Main Event for $447k
German PokerStrategist "face12" managed to finish second in the $640 FTOPS XVII Main Event, after playing for more than 15 hours. Thanks to the heads-up deal, our Black Member was rewarded with a massive prize of $446,942.59, more than the winner of the event.
The 17th Full Tilt Online Poker Series reached its conclusion on Monday, when the $600+$40 Main Event finally crowned its winner.
A total of 4,805 players registered for this tournament, where the guaranteed prize pool was set to $3 million. Amongst the starting field was also German Black Member face12, and he eventually worked his way up to the final table.
Heads-up deal gives face12 the bigger payout
Our PokerStrategist eventually became chip leader when the tournament was down to three players, having approximately 2/3 of the chips in play. Not long after, the play got to the heads-up phase, and he had a 2.5:1 chip lead.
After a few hands, the two made a deal according to which he would get approximately $447k and his opponent would take around $390k, with $30k more to be given to the winner. Unfortunately for our Black Member, he couldn't keep the momentum and he would eventually finish in second place.
The last hand of the tournament happened in level 45, when the blinds were 170k/340k and 40k antes. face12 had a stack of 11.2 million in the small blind, while his opponent TyboVegas had 24.8 million chips. He raised it to 680k and the big blind called.
The flop came 
and both player checked. Once the turn brought the 
, TyboVegas bet 680k, face12 raised it to 2.38MM and his opponent re-raised to 6.8MM. face12 went all in and got called, showing 
for two pair. However, TyboVegas held 
for a five-high straight and the 
on the river changed nothing.
