PokerStrategist in PCA finale, Main Event begins

Sands on top

While some of the world's best players enjoyed the beach yesterday, one player was causing a sand storm during the PCA's Super High Roller event.

After welcoming a record breaking 47 players (plus 12 rebuys), the $100,000 tournament was dominated by David "Doc" Sands.

Bagging a total of 6,680,000 chips, Sands lead his nearest rival, Nick Schulman (2,295,000), by more than four million chips at the close of Day 2. 

Throughout the day a host of familiar faces hit the rail, including: Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and PokerStrategists, Fabian 'fabstinho' Quoss and Tobias 'pokernoob' Reinkemeier.

However, it wasn't all bad news for the community as Philipp 'philgruissem' Gruissem (1,610,000) managed to continue his positive run to finish the day third in chips.

With just eight players left, the opening tournament of PokerStars' Caribbean party will come to a conclusion today when one player will walk away with a top prize of $2,003,480.

While the final few battle for Super High Roller success, the attending mass will sit down for Day 1a of the $10,300 Main Event.

Deadman's live victory

Deadman enjoying life

PKR's annual World Poker Tour event in Dublin came to a conclusion on Sunday and after wading through the masses it was Simon Deadman who scooped the title.

A slow start on Day 1a had some worried that the field might not breach the 200 barrier; however, a flurry of entries on Day 1b set the final number of entrants at 238.

At the start of Day 2 it looked as though PokerStars' Jude Ainsworth would be in contention for the top prize. However, as the day wore on the Irishman fell short of the final table.

With just 10 players left the route to victory wasn't easy for Deadman as Ben Carpenter, Jack Salter and UKIPT Edinburgh champion Fintan Gavin all stood in his way.

However, after closing 2012 on a high with a GUKPT victory, Deadman put on a confident performance to claim the top prize.

After sending Sean Prendiville (€30,250) to the rail in third place, Deadman managed to fade Joachim Haraldstad’s (€47,100) flush draw for the majority of the chips heads-up.

Shortly after the coup, Deadman scooped the rest of Haraldstad's chips to bank €67,500 and become the latest WPT Champion.

The year of Blom

If 2012 was the year of Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky, then 2013 is Viktor "Isildur1" Blom's time to shine.

Having ended last year in the red, Blom has started the New Year with a completely different mindset.

At present the Swedish pro is in profit by over $2 million, having played just 8,000 hands.

After three excellent days of poker, Blom went into the weekend with a profit of $1.7 million.

With momentum on his side he managed to scoop another $239,800 profit on Saturday, before raking in another $343,845 yesterday.

The staggering run of form has taken his yearly total to $2,443,111 which is over $2 million more than his closest rival, Ben "Bttech86" Tollerene ($411,369).
