PokerStrategist in WPT success

Kogovsek celebrates

PokerStrategist Thomas 'wongfeihung' Mühlöcker put in a fantastic performance over the last few days to finish second in the WPT's National Series Main Event in Vienna.

283 runners made the trip to the Austrian capital to play in the €1,100 event and, after a slew of eliminations, yesterday's final table commenced with just nine players remaining.

At the start of the session Tomaz Kogovsek, the eventual winner, led the way and the Slovenian player looked in control from the outset.

However, after Tomaz let Mühlöcker back into the match, the pair got all the chips in with latter holding the advantage.

It wasn't to be the PokerStrategist's day, though, and despite finding A-K against Kogovsek’s A-8, an eight on the flop handed the pot to Kogovsek along with a cheque worth €60,600.

Mühlöcker’s efforts weren’t in vein though as he still walked away with €42,550.

Can you guess the pro?

PokerStars usually like to generate a fanfare when they sign a new player, but this time around the company's PR team have taken a more low-key approach.

While they are still shouting about their new pro to anyone that wants to listen, they've decided not to reveal their identity. Instead, they're keeping the player's name under wraps and letting the community guess who it is.

In typical PokerStars style, there's also some money involved; $2,500 to be precise. Between today and tomorrow you can send in your guess and, if correct, you'll be entered into a draw to win one of 50 prizes worth $50.

UK’s new super casino

The UK’s second largest city, Birmingham, looks set to become the new home of a Las Vegas-style casino complex in 2015.

Thanks to an injection of cash from Genting UK, the £89 million complex will feature a luxury hotel, cinema, retail outlets as well as bars, restaurants and, of course, a large casino.

The certainty of the project moved a step closer yesterday as the casino company formally selected Galliford Try to complete the construction project.

Commenting on their successful bid for the building contract, Greg Fitzgerald, CEO of Galliford Try, said:

"We are delighted we have completed a successful negotiation with Genting UK and now look forward to starting on site on what will be one of the most prestigious projects in the Midlands of recent times."

The recent proliferation of new casinos in the UK, including PokerStars investment in one of London's newest venues, is a sure sign that the industry is performing well despite tight economic conditions in Europe.

Profit for Blom

Like a rubber ball he always seems to bounce back to the top of the high stakes charts and in the last 24 hours Viktor "Isildur1" Blom has done it again. After playing 1,366 hands, yesterday, the Swede managed to bank $208,619.

Having enjoyed a surge of positive results over a month ago, Viktor soon dropped out of action after losing the bulk of the money he made during his winning run.

However, he now seems to be back and looking to dig himself out of the $2.2 million hole he's dug for himself in 2012.
 
Two players not running so well yesterday were Alexander "Kanu7" Millar and Theo "Theo J" Jorgensen. The former dropped $184,953, while the latter waved goodbye to $157,460 over the course of just 232 hands.
