Durrrr Stuck $1.3 Million in Massive Macau Heads-Up

Tom "durrrr" Dwan's nosebleed stakes heads-up is in full swing. He's rumoured to be down around $1.3 million in the $4,000/$8,000 game, according to the latest reports coming in from Macau.

Following our report of the high stakes action in Macau, we heard that Tom durrrr Dwan had been challenged to an enormous heads-up match with a wealthy Chinese businessman.

After throwing down the gauntlet to anyone in the world (well, the world minus Phil Galfond) to play him in the well documented "Durrrr Challenge", it was unlikely that durrrr would shy away when the tables were turned. Unsurprisingly, he accepted, and sat down with a rumoured HK $18 million (approximately $2.32 million).

The heads-up started on November the 18th, with blinds at HK $30k/$60k (approximately $3.9k/$7.7k). Latest reports suggest that durrrr is stuck around HK $10 million (approximately $1.3 million).

His opponent is no stranger to high stakes action and is rumoured to have lost HK $100 million (approximately $12.9 million) over two years playing poker in Macau.

Looking for an edge, the Chinese businessman insisted on one condition before heads-up play started - both players would turn up their cards after each hand, regardless of whether showdown was reached or not. It can only be speculated what effect this is having on durrrr's usual style of play.

Winfred Yu sheds light on durrrr's opponent

Winfred Yu, the Poker Room Manager of the StarWorld Casino in Macau, has given an insight into the type of opponent durrrr is facing:

"It is a question of whether you have the guts to put your chips into the pot and take a chance against them (the Chinese businessmen)... They have a lot of money, and to them, losing HK$5 million or HK$10 million is nothing – they treat this money as ‘tuition fees... They overbet every pot and really put you under a lot of pressure".

The action in Macau has been a multi-million dollar roller coaster so far. We'll just have to wait and see whether or not durrrr can fight his way back in the black over the course of this poker epic.
