Foxwoods Poker Classic: Final Table Set
Amnon Filippi marched through Day 5 towards the final table and a chance to move into a tie with John Phan for the WPT Player of the Year. This time the final table will feature only five players.
Day 5 was marked by Amnon Filippi who is now the third player thisseason to make multiple final tables, as he finished fifth in the WPT
tournament at Bellagio in December. Filippi has a chance to move into a
tie with John Phan for the WPT Player of the Year if he wins this event.
The biggest downfall struck the chip leader Lee Markholt. It seemed
certain that he would make it to the final table and then everything
went wrong for him in one of the hands. After an 8-high flop, he
check-raised with pocket jacks and ran into Vadim Trincher's pocket
kings.
Markholt was crippled by this encounter and went down near the bottom
of the chip counts, only to find himself eliminated later on.
The final hand at the table saw two players getting eliminated, William
Botchis and Joe Raposa, which means that the final table will start
with just five players. This is the second time in WPT history that it
has happened, with the other time being in Season VI WPT Celebrity
Invitational, which was won by Van Nguyen.
