French poker player arrested for murder
We round up a few stories you may have missed this week, including more controversy at the Fallsview Poker Classic, and a priest stealing $240,000.
Arnaud Mimran arrested
The French National Judicial Customs Department has arrested 43-year old high stakes poker player Arnaud Mimran in conjunction with numerous cases of financial fraud, as well as three unsolved murders.
One of the murder cases in question was that of fellow French high stakes regular Cyril Mouly's driver, who was tragically killed after a vicious attack on the pair last year.
Mimran, who is the son of millionaire fashion designer Joseph Mimran, became famous in poker circles when he registered for the $1m buy-in Big One for One Drop event at the WSOP back in 2012. He has one recorded tournament cash to his name, earned at the EPT Monte Carlo main event of 2006.
More drama at Fallsview Poker Classic
Earlier in the week we reported on a group of illegal ticket scalpers causing havoc at the opening event of the Fallsview Poker Classic, and amazingly the controversy attached to that one tournament didn't end there.
DJ MacKinnon, who was railing a friend at the final table of the festival opener, reported that police had forced a stop to play:

The man arrested is reported to be Harnham Singh Mathuru (pictured left), who is accused of attacking fellow poker pro and Alberta native Uri Miro - stealing $5,000 in the process - when the two were in Quebec together playing WPT Montreal.
He was eventually blinded out of the tournament in third place which was good for an $88,000 pay day, but it's currently unknown as to whether or not he'll get to keep any of that cash.
Priest steals $240K, gets probation
The Boston Herald reported earlier this week that Roman Catholic priest Stephen Gemme was sentenced to five years probation having stolen $240,000 from his church and its school.
Gemme, who told the court he was "deeply ashamed and sorry", admitted to using funds from the church to pay off debts he accumulated as the result of a gambling addiction.
The judge labelled Gemme "a very lucky man" before ordering that he pay back the money he'd stolen in installments. As a part of the deal to keep him out of prison, Gemme will also give public talks about gambling addiction in his local community.
British Poker Awards coming soon
The biggest event on the UK poker calendar is just weeks away, and tickets for the British Poker Awards are now on sale to the public at the Hippodrome Casino website.
Last year's ceremony was an overwhelming success, with some of the biggest names in the game attending to celebrate the depth of British poker talent.
This year the awards will return to the Hippodrome Casino in London on February 23 for a drinks reception, live band, and of course the awards themselves.
