How Philbort overcame a big downswing

As Philipp Gruissem gets back to winning ways, other notable MTT winners include a familiar high roller plus the 888Live festival wraps up.

Philipp “philbort” Gruissem made the wise decision on Sunday to attempt to finally curb his downswing by participating in the latest Powerfest Main Event at partypoker, buying-in for $215.

It seems that Gruissem, with a total of $13m+ in live and online winnings, went back to basics and downsized his more regular $25k+ buy-ins, in order to secure a much-needed result, a move that played dividends.

In what proved to be a smart move, he did indeed win the $500,000 Main Event for over $80,000 before finishing sixth in the $1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event for an additional $41,000.

Despite the lower stakes, ‘philbort’ was pleased with his return to form which just goes to prove a wins a win.

From at last to Rast

Over at the Aria, Brian Rast was also a repeat big winner as he saw off a field of 35 to take down the more familiar score of $772,800. His latest win came in the Super High Roller tournament and, despite being enough to most of us being happy, falls some way short of his best cash, $7.525m, which came back in 2015 when he took down the first-ever Super High Roller Bowl.

The owner of three WSOP gold bracelets, Rast’s live tournament winnings are currently just shy of $20m.

888Live finishes with a Pop

Over in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, the 888Live Festival, came to an end when Romanian Catalin Pop won the 888Live Rozvadov Main Event, seeing off 531 runners in the process.

Walking away from the King’s Casino with €80,000, the score was by far the biggest cash in his career so far.
