Isildur1 takes over $110,000 off Katchalov in SuperStar Showdown

The fearless Swede Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom faced Eugene 'MyRabbiFoo' Katchalov in last night's SuperStar Showdown and set an all time high for winnings in such a match. Katchalov left the showdown over $110,000 lighter in the wallet department.

Three in a row: Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom

It wasn't really a match of equals: Online legend Viktor 'Isildur' Blom, used to spending endless nights spend in front a screen; played against Eugene Katchalov, a high roller in his own right, no doubt, but neither a cash game nor online poker specialist.

Tough luck for Katchalov

When the dust had settled, Katchalov had to part ways with over two thirds of the $150,000 he had to bring to the SuperStar Showdown. $111,750 was Isildur1s Profit that night and a big chunk of it came from the biggest pot of the night.

Katchlov sat on the Button/Small Blind with and raised. Isildur1, holding in the Big Blind, wasted no time and 3-bet his opponent, triggering a 4-bet, followed by a 5-bet from himself. Both players had been over 300BB deep at the start of the hand.

The Ukrainian-American called the 5-bet, creating pot of almost $11,000 (110BB) just pre-flop. The flop came down and Katchalov called Isildur1's donkbet of $3,850. The turn brought and the set for the Swede.

With only a bit more than a pot-size bet behind for both players, Isildur1 didn't need to bet more than $5,650 (less than one third of the pot) on the turn to know that he would get all money in eventually. Katchalov called again and when the river brought the , he was probably more than confident to have the best hand.

Isildur1 then moved all-in for his last $16,300 into a $29,900 pot and Katchalov made the obvious call. Both showed down a set with Blom sporting the better of the two, giving him a pot of $62,500.

One-sided finale

Katchalov was already down a few buy-ins before the set-over-set hand and it didn't get better afterwards. Knowing that he needed a miracle to turn things around, the challenger took more risks and lost another buy-in with an open-ended straight draw against Blom's overpair.

After 2,500 hands the show was over and the young PokerStars Pro booked a profit of $111,750, making it the most expensive SuperStar Showdown to date. It also marks the third consecutive victory for Blom after defeating Tony G and Daniel 'jungleman12' Cates.
