Jason Mercier Wins NAPT Mohegan Sun High Roller Event

Jason Mercier conquered a star-studded field on Tuesday by winning the NAPT Mohegan Sun High Roller Bounty Shootout tournament in Connecticut. He won $450,000 and a $25,000 seat for the next NAPT High Roller event.

The $25,000 High Roller Bounty Shootout event in the PokerStars North American Poker Tour finished Tuesday with a victory for Florida pro, Jason Mercier.

The line-up at the 6 tables aiming to qualify for the final table included the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein and Greg Raymer.  February's NAPT Venetian winners Tom Marchese (Main Event) and Ashton Griffin (High Roller Bounty event) were also in attendance. None of these competitors managed to make it to the final day, however.

Instead, Mercier was joined on the final table by Sam Stein, Faraz Jaka, Matt Glantz, Shawn Buchanan and Luis "Bachy" Vazquez.  Despite at one point losing his chip lead to Stein, Mercier managed to eliminate Faraz Jaka (having already sent Buchanan and Glantz packing earlier in the day) to meet him in the head's-up.

After almost 4 hours of play Mercier found himself in a preflop flip with 3-3 against Stein's . Despite Stein flopping a pair of jacks, Mercier made a straight on the river to take a commanding lead and victory a couple of hands later.

Winning the final table was not the only way to achieve a good payday. The winner of each first round qualifying table received $60,000 ($50,000 in the case of the 5 player table). In addition, for each player taken out, the one to eliminate him receives $5,000.

Mercier's eight bounties thus earned him an additional $40,000 on top of the $60,000 for winning his table and the overall winner prize of $350,000, for a total payout of $450,000.  The payouts available for bounties meant that the finishing order on the final table did not necessarily match the ranking measured by total prize money.
