John Juanda wins EPT Barcelona
Season 12 kicks off with a huge name taking down the €1,022,593 first prize.
Five-time WSOP bracelet winner John Juanda ended a year off from playing poker in the best possible way last night, beating 1,693 others to the first EPT title of the season.
The prolific high stakes star had not played a hand of poker for 12 months prior to playing this event, and the break clearly did him good. He added €1,022,593 to his lifetime earnings, to give him a career tournament haul of $17,250,677.
This result puts him back in the top-ten all-time money rankings, moving Jason Mercier back into 11th place.
"I feel really blessed," Juanda said after the win "I've been playing poker for 18 years and you still get a rush."
He also paid special tribute to Erik Seidel and ElkY, who had both been offering him strategy advice upon his return back to the tables.
The next stop on the European Poker Tour is EPT Malta starting on October 20.
