London terror suspect is a poker player

The mainstream media are paying a surprising amount of attention to the fact that an alleged terrorist is a poker enthusiast.

Last Thursday 19-year-old Damon Smith was reported to have left a suspicious package at the North Greenwich tube station in London, which police believe was a crude bomb. He has since been arrested and thankfully nobody was harmed. 

Naturally the mainstream media has been delving into the psyche of the young man and what would compel him to do such a thing. One of the surprising factors they all seem to be reporting on is the fact he is a poker enthusiast. 

In fact he is said to have won £500 online the morning he allegedly left the package at the tube station. 

Other publications have described him as a 'poker loving loner' and made a point of highlighting images of him with poker winnings. 

More details are emerging which suggest he has some serious mental health issues and an obsession with ISIS. While it seems clear that poker was in no way a causal or important issue, it does seem that the game is being used as a vehicle to imply Smith had a number of unpalatable obsessions, suggesting that poker was perhaps one of them.
