Mike Sexton wins WPT Montreal
After 15 seasons of commentating on the World Poker Tour he finally wins one.
The World Poker Tour started in 2003 and was one of the pioneering shows of the poker boom. For 15 seasons and hundreds of final tables, Mike Sexton has been there commentating alongside Vince Van Patten.
Until last night as 648 players became one in WPT Montreal at the Playground Poker Club. Sexton outlasted a tough field to finally take down one of the events he has commented on for more than 13 years.
He took down a prize of C$425,980 (US $317,896) which includes a $15,000 buy-in to the WPT Tournament of Champions event. No doubt for this WPT icon it was all about the title, which he can add to his WSOP bracelet and induction into the Poker Hall of Fame.
This is not the first time we have seen Sexton at a WPT final table, he was at the feature table of a special invitational event in 2003 and came 6th in the Bay 101 Shooting Stars in 2011. In both cases he ran back to the commentary booth to keep working after he was eliminated.
As the winner's photo below shows, with him surrounded by the crew of the World Poker Tour, this may be the most historic WPT final ever, at least for the hardcore fans, and will no doubt make for epic TV when it is broadcast.
