Mike Watson becomes the latest double-EPT Winner

There was once a time that a double-EPT winner seemed an impossibility, but it has happened again for a third time.

Mike Watson

1,098 entries for the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event, the joint largest field ever assembled at this stop. Once again live poker appears to be booming more than ever.

Canada's Mike Watson has just taken it down after a heads-up deal with Leonard Maue. He pocketed €749,425 and the trophy.

More important, perhaps, he became the third player to win two live European Poker Tour Main Events, alongside Vicky Coren-Mitchell and Mikalai Pobal. Watson previously won the 2016 PCA in 2016.

“Winning two Main Events on the same tour is really, really hard thing to do,” Watson said. “I think it’s definitely right up there, maybe the biggest accomplishment of my poker career and I’m really happy with that.”

Watson could be one of the great underrated professional poker players in the game. On top of these live results, 'SirWatts' boasts seven SCOOP and three WCOOP titles.

Position Player Country Prize

The EPT takes a break now because all eyes will soon be on the WSOP, we next see a European Poker Tour stop in Barcelona at the end of August. Next up for PokerStars, however, is SCOOP which starts today.
