Mizrachi wins the Players Championship for a third time

Has Michael Mizrachi just pulled off the toughest feat ever at the World Series of Poker by winning the most prestigious event three times?

It may be overshadowed by some of the Super High Roller No Limit events these days, but the $50,000 Poker Players Championship is still considered the most prestigious event in poker for anyone who believes to be the best, you have to be good at all the formats. 

And while he may be off the tournament radar for most of the year, Michael Mizrachi has probably now established himself as the best mixed games tournament player ever by winning it for a third time. 

He won it in 2010 for $1,559,046, then in 2012 for $1,451,527 and finally he just won it again for $1,239,126

Credit also has to go to heads-up opponent John Hennigan who not only has won a bracelet this year but will leapfrog Elio Fox at the top of the Player of the Year race as a direct result of his runner-up finish here. 

Where this result stands in the pantheon of tournament poker accomplishment really depends on how much you value mixed games. It is true that many Super High Rollers will have significantly better single years than what Mizrachi has done over eight in this event, but when you consider this event requires skill in every format against the best players in the word, it has to be regarded as one of the truly historic feats at the WSOP. 

Amazingly, anyone thinking this result will never be repeated is way off the mark, because Brian Rast has won this event twice himself and came 8th this year for $144,049, so it is very conceivable he could also emulate 'The Grinder'.
