Nurse takes down two mini-WCOOP titles at once
One night, two wins for Prague based Frenchman Iwan ‘Ethanolol’ Robert who has been rewarded with WCOOP Main Event entry.
One of the year’s more remarkable poker stories emerged last week when a nurse living in the Czech Republic won back-to-back events at this year’s mini-WCOOP.
Iwan Robert, a 34-year old Frenchman, had grown a love for live poker while playing with roommates before trying his luck online where he amassed a bankroll of $7,000. Then disaster struck as Robert sat down for a game whilst drunk and duly lost the lot.
Thereon, Robert, known as Ethanolol at PokerStars, took a job as nurse and played the game intermittently. Making the switch to MTTs, over the course of two years he rebuilt his bankroll to $5,000 and moved to Prague where he resides today. He continues to play low buy-in games and last week achieved something special.
The double
Ten days ago on September 11, Robert sat down for the first of two mini-WCOOP events he was to play that evening. The first, event 27, carried a $2.20 buy-in and banked him $3,509. Then, within the same hour, in very next event, lightning struck again when he took down the $11 buy-in game for $11,686.
In all, over the course of both events, he shipped just over $15,000 and saw off 29,838 other entrants. As a special bonus reward, the team at PokerStars, impressed by what they saw, gifted the player entry into the WCOOP Main Event this Sunday.
They weren’t the only ones impressed, however, as Robert’s achievements also caught the eye of an observant Jason Somerville who saw the results on Twitch.
