Online poker is 20 years old

We round-up some stories you may have missed including KidPoker's 2018 goals and Gus Hansen tilting his opponents at bridge.

Happy birthday online poker

A landmark moment for the game came this week as on January 1 online poker was officially 20 years old. Depending on your own age that probably seems like a lot or not much, but to put it in perspective, online poker is still not old enough to play live poker at the WSOP.

The first hand of online poker was dealt at Planet Poker on January 1, 1998. It was followed by Paradise Poker in 1999 and after that all the big names we know very well like PokerStars and partypoker established themselves.

Since then we have had thousands of professional players, millionaires made overnight, cheating scandals, Black Fridays and perhaps quite fitting later this year a $20 million guaranteed online tournament

Yesterday we brought you Daniel Negreanu's very honest blog about his live poker losses last year. Following that he released his always ambitious annual goals blog for the year.

This year they are:

  • Top $40 million in Live Earnings
  • Win a WSOP Bracelet
  • Get to 115 WSOP cashes and/or close gap on Phil Hellmuth
  • Profit for $2 million
  • Finish Year Top 30 in GPI
  • Final Table SHRB or One Drop
  • Win Poker Masters or US Poker Open
  • Hang on to the #1 spot on the All-Time Money List
  • Win a Super High Roller
  • Study 120 hours

So basically, win all the time.

Watch Gus play bridge

People often forget that Gus Hansen is proficient at a hell of a lot of games outside of poker including pool, backgammon, all manner of racket sports and, it appears, bridge.

A new video has emerged of him playing a high stakes bridge game and, in true Gus fashion, tilting his opponents:

Can KidPoker meet those goals this year? Let us know in the comments:
