Straight flush loses in record Bad Beat Jackpot

An almost $300,000 Bad Beat Jackpot was paid out this week when A♣2♣3♣4♣5♣ was no good in Texas.

Doug Polk will be licking his wounds this morning after his Lodge Card Club in Round Rock dealt out the biggest Bad Beat Jackpot in Texan poker history. 

$289,376 was paid out at a $1/$2/$5 PLO table and it was caught on the live stream:

In the hand, one player held A♣2♣K♠6♠ and the other was dealt A♦K♦7♣6♣. The flop was 3♣4♣5♣ making the rest of the runout irrelevant (but it was J♥ on the turn and 5♥ on the river before you ask). 

Both players flopped a straight flush for the record-breaking jackpot. 

Roughly 50% of the $289,376 went to the player with the losing straight flush, and 25% went to the winner. All the other players in the Lodge Card Club at the time got a share of the remainder. 

The rules of the Bad Beat Jackpot are in PLO it must be a flopped straight flush that loses to qualify. This is what led to a very controversial ruling last year when two straight flushes flopped, however, a river card gave one player a Royal Flush. As per the rules of the jackpot the winning hand was not flopped, so it didn't count. 

In Hold'em Quad Tens or better has to lose to qualify, but it does not have to be flopped. The Jackpot now resets to $100,000 with $1,000 added every day.
