The 2023 WSOP Main Event is the biggest ever

We still have two days of late registration to go, but we have already smashed the 2006 attendance record in the Main Event.

As everyone in the poker world predicted, the 2023 World Series of Poker Main Event is already the biggest one in history. 

Roughly 4,072 players entered Day 1D, making the current approximation of the total runners 9,350. We won't know till Sunday the official numbers on any of the days or any of the upcoming Day 2s where people can still late register, but we already know the 2006 record of 8,773 has been smashed.  

Day 1A to 1C all beat the 2022 equivalent day by a high degree, leading to speculation that Day 1D would be a huge number, with predictions play would be 10-handed. That didn't quite happen and the rough figures suggest Day 1D was lower in turnout than the same day last year. A rare moment of forward planning by the poker community. 

The 17-year wait is over - we have a new World Series of Poker Main Event entry record!

With 8,830 entries and counting, and registration open until 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, the previous Main Event record of 8,773 will be shattered.

Of the 9,350 players, roughly 7,166 players have made it to Day 2. Now the big question is how many Day 2 late registrations will happen today and tomorrow. Last year around 602 players chose this option, which would still see them start with 75BBs. It appears that the WSOP is ramping up the satellites into these final stages, so could we see the final numbers be above 10,000? 

These are the current, approximate, numbers compared to 2022, when the record was almost broken.
