The Grand National was the biggest gambling event of 2025

No it wasn't Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua, not even close. Globally horse racing is what draws the punters in to make sports bets.

Forget the Champions League or the SuperBowl, or even politics, horse racing remains the biggest gambling draw in sports betting. 

The Grand National, the world's largest steeplechase in Aintree, United Kingdom, was once again the biggest betting event in sport, beating the Super Bowl. 

In a new report by operator Entain, horse racing was still top dog in betting, as it saw the most money wagered on it. However, Football, Golf, and American Football all made the top list, with football appearing 12 times in the top 20.

Football will claim top spot in 2026

While football and the NFL are bigger spectator sports, horse racing remains the biggest gambling sport. With huge first prizes and even protected status in places like the United Kingdom. 

It is anticipated that football will be the biggest gambling sport of 2026, as this year is the FIFA World Cup starting on June 11 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
