The German high roller Christoph Vogelsang conquered the Triton Jeju Main Event for his biggest ever tournament poker result outside of Las Vegas.

A total of 228 entries, each at $100,000, made the prize pool for the Triton Poker Series Jeju Main Event a massive $22.8 million. After a gruelling final table, the German high roller regular Christoph Vogelsang sealed victory for almost $4.1 million, the biggest result of his career outside the United States, after defeating the Austrian player Samuel Mullur heads-up.

When Christoph Vogelsang came fourth in the Big One for One Drop in 2014 for $4.8m and won the 2017 Super High Roller Bowl for $6m back in 2017 in Las Vegas, the poker world was a different place. The German once again confirmed his prowess in the GTO era in South Korea, outlasting some of the toughest high rollers in the world such as the former Triton Million runner-up Ben Heath and Aleks Ponakovs.

On the brink of the final table, one of the most insane runouts in poker this year saw Byron Kaverman contrived to lose chips to Vogelsang when a dominating J♣ 5♥ for the American was no good against the German’s 6♠ 5♣. After a flop paired both of Kaverman’s cards, successive sixes on turn and river stunned the watching commentators.

As the final table began, Vogelsang had the chip lead, holding 88 big blinds to Aleks Ponakovs' 75 bigs at the top of the leaderboard.

A crucial hand took place between Vogelsang and Ponakovs when five players remained. After flopping the open-ended straight and flush draw, Ponakovs’ shove on the river put huge pressure on Vogelsang, who had a top pair of a king but only with a deuce. Eventually, the German made the huge call and rode that giant stack to victory.

A "Special" Victory

Heads-up, both Vogelsang and Mullur were happy to do an ICM deal, smoothing out the edges of a vast amount to play for. The win, worth $4.1 million to Vogelsang, was a ‘special’ one to him.

“It's a Main Event, it's the biggest Triton event, and the Triton tour is easily my favourite place to play poker,” Vogelsang told reporters in the aftermath of victory. “You really know people so well, both the players and the staff. Triton events are very special for me, so I'm happy to have won this one.”
