WPT Borgata: Jonathan Little to enter Day 2
A total of 1,018 players entered the WPT Borgata championship event, thus making it the first WPT tournament with over a thousand players. Jonathan Little was amongst them and will return on Day 2.
The World Poker Tour stop at Borgata attracted 1,018 players, thus making it the first WPT tournament with over a thousand players. The reason behind such a great success is the buy-in for the championship event, which has been lowered to $3,500.
The WPT Borgata Poker Open offered a guaranteed $2 million up for grabs but with such a large field, that number rose to whooping $3,359,400. The top 100 players will end in the money with the first place finisher taking home $925,514.
Jonathan Little glides into Day 2
Day 1A saw 326 players entering the tournament and only 168 of them
made it through the day. Chino Rheem had a great start and was the
unofficial chip leader before the dinner break, but a disaster followed
after the dinner and he was sent to the rails.
After running into quad deuces, Rheem ran into pocket aces and that was
it for him. Same as Rheem, Ray Henson also started off well on Day 1A
but he managed to survive all the way through. By the second level of
play, he already built up his starting stack of 30,000 up to over
100,000 and then fought his way safely through the rest of the
day to finish amongst the chip leaders.
jonathanlittle (pictured right) and Michael Binger also made it through the day, both
finding themselves amongst the top 10 players after Day 1A. Meanwhile
Dwyte Pilgrim, Alex Bolotin, Amnon Filippi, Cornel Andrew Cimpan, Eric
Baldwin and J.C. Tran were some of the notables who same as Rheem
didn't make it through the day.
Day 1B saw a lot more players, as 692 of them joined the field. Gavin Smith was the biggest name in the field but unlike Rheem, he didn't have a rollercoaster ride and simply ended the day with a slightly above-average stack. Meanwhile Jason Young, Ted Lawson, Tommy Vedes, Matt Stout and Mike Vela are some of the notables who hit the rail before the play was concluded for the day.
A total of 570 players made it through the day, as they will join the survivors of Day 1A to resume the race for the title. Here are the top 10 players entering Day 2:
